A small, cosy cottage that suits a couple or a single person, in the attractive location of Orton described by the great walker Alfred Wainwright as the prettiest village he knew on the Coast to Coast route, if not in the entire region. As such, local amenities (pub, cafe and basic supplies) are good and within easy walking distance. Not unexpected, but lack of Wi-Fi over a 7-night stay was a major inconvenience. That probably shows how much we have become dependent on an internet connection! It’s like a utility these days and a holiday cottage without it is very unusual. Not something that bothered guests 27 years ago (1995) when Redmayne Cottage was a holiday let and very popular for honeymoons (this info comes from the collection of Guest Books kept there for visitors to read) and close access to the Lakes. We enjoyed the cottage, the village, and the Westmorland Dales for gentle walks from our doorstep. Daily use of a car is definitely optional here!

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a lovely village. Enjoyed the viaduct walks at Kirkby Stephen and visiting Acorn Bank garden.
