The house itself is fantastic but the garden lets it down in my opinion, although it is fully enclosed there is a really steep slope/drop within the grounds which is only partially fenced off, this part of the garden is really overgrown and full of brambles. Luckily we had a few large dog crates with us that we had to make a barrier with, we had to do this whenever the dogs were in the garden. If this had been highlighted in the description of the house I would not have booked it. I also thought it was unfair of the owner to come back mid week to pot her plants! We have holidayed several times a year for the past 15 years and have never had this happen before. The last thing you want is the owner dropping in. This alone would also stop us holidaying here again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; So sorry you thought I had dropped in, in fact, I received a text from a member of your party about all the breakages at the weekend and we arranged for me to clear up the broken garden pot and transfer the plants on Tuesday while you were all at the beach. Was this not mentioned? We do have blackberries and raspberries in the orchard on the bank; the path is kept clear, I am sorry if your golden retrievers struggled. We did let you drop off your two trailers at noon on changeover day, let you in early as it was raining, and stored your trailers on the final day until 3pm, we had no idea about these issues and a member of the party text to say you were all having a fantastic time.

Just the most perfect holiday venue - everything you could wish for. Fabulous garden with stunning views of Scarborough. Great games room for the kids and big enough for a large family to each have their own space - my favourite was the conservatory.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you. So glad your special party went well, it was lovely to see the Australian flag flying over Scarborough. I love the conservatory too, keeping my eyes open for more vintage flower pictures.

Really beautiful house. Very well equipped with a hamper and a homemade chocolate cake on the table when we arrived. Very comfortable beds. Gorgeous views. Lots of toilet rolls, fire wood etc which was really nice. Jenny was very helpful.

The Red House was just what we wanted for a short birthday break. Every appliance was available and enough equipment to feed an army. The welcome gift was a nice surprise. The view was stunning. We would certainly book again if a suitable occasion arises.

This is the second time we have been to the Red House. Once at Christmas and just recently in May. Both occasions were wonderful. The house is really comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly need from the large and necessary to the small and helpful. Just as you were thinking ‘I really need....’ fill in the blank ... you would discover it was there. Whether that be cling film or dishwasher tablets; barbarcue coals or paper-clips. There was even a birthday hat! It is large and spacious but also cosy and comfortable. My husband has insisted that we now get a new bed as he has realised how uncomfortable ours is by comparison. I particularly loved the sitting room, with its spectacular views over Scarborough and the comfy sofas. We have stayed at several big houses over the years in different parts of the country: this is the best by a mile. Hope we can stay again soon.
