Description

This beautifully presented holiday home is every families great escape.

This fabulous, spacious and contemporary, detached house has been furnished and decorated to a good standard. The kitchen is extremely spacious and capable of catering for the larger family; it has polished granite work tops, oak cupboards and a travertine tiled floor, with a separate utility room just off the kitchen. The large entrance hall has an oak staircase leading to the bedrooms, where guests will find high vaulted beamed ceilings and an impressive galleried landing.
Poulston House is perfect for a family gathering or special occasion throughout the year, as there is so much to keep the family entertained on site. Featuring a fantastic leisure complex, with shared use for all guests staying here on holiday, the facilities are open all year round and offer something for all ages and abilities. There is a shared, indoor heated swimming pool and a separate shallow heated toddlers’ pool. The badminton and squash courts are purpose built to a very high specification and in addition there is a snooker room and table tennis. The house has a lovely stone patio with water feature and looks out across a large lawned area, which is great for an evening of relaxing, and truly immersing in this spectacular location.
Higher Poulston is set in rural farming countryside just on the outskirts of the vibrant town of Totnes, nestling on the River Dart, and as well as Poulston House, there are other properties within the vicinity. The friendly owners live on site and are happy to help. This is a very family friendly holiday complex; the ideal place for mums and dads to relax in, children to have fun, and grandparents to join in too.
For your local shopping, Harbertonford, 1 mile, has a small village shop, a pub and post office. Also, the village of Morleigh, 1 mile, has a pub serving food. The ancient town of Totnes, just 3 miles away, has a range of quirky independent shops and bistros and is a vibrant and interesting place to visit, especially on Fridays when the market comes to town. The south Devon coastline is close at hand, has many beautiful beaches and coves, scenic walks and pretty villages including Blackpool Sands and Slapton. Enjoy a day out in the riverside marine town of Dartmouth and take a cruise along the river to Totnes, or the ferry across to Kingswear and the quaint fishing town of Brixham. Then perhaps ride on the steam train to Paignton or Buckfastleigh. Within easy reach are the English Riviera resorts of Paignton and Torquay, the boating and sailing centre of Salcombe on the estuary and the historic town of Dartmouth, nestling on the banks of the River Dart. Woodlands Fun Park is a great tourist attraction and fun day out for families, as is Dartmoor National Park, with its hundreds of acres of wild rugged moorland, both about 4 miles away. Had a fabulous stay at Poulston house for my birthday with family. We all had an amazing time. The house had a 'wow' factor about it as you pulled up and we were not disappointed when we actually went in. It was fantastic. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed. We couldn't find any matches anywhere for the BBQ so messaged the owner to see if they knew where they were. Within minutes they had come round and provided us with a box of matches. They gave me a card and a bottle of Presecco for my birthday which was completely unexpected. They also had baked a delicious cake. 2 lovely touches we felt to make our stay even more special. All the sports facilities were good and we enjoyed our swims in the indoor pool too. Plenty of space in the house for us all and beautiful grounds to enjoy in the gorgeous sunshine we were lucky to have whilst there. Bedrooms were all wonderful too with comfy beds and powerful hot showers. We did order a take away from a local Chinese and that was our only down side (hence the 7 rating). They didn't deliver our 2 egg rice and sadly by the time they had returned with them we had pretty much eaten our meal which consisted mostly of meat and sauce. A shame but nothing to do with the owners of the house. We didn't venture out of the cottage really as it had everything we needed for our long weekend so don't know about local amenities. It suited our family so well, we would definitely return again if we were looking to do a similar break again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at poulston house. The house is a home that most people would dream of owning . The facilities are excellent, catering for my two year old grandson who is on the go all the time right up to me who isn't. The location superb, you must explore the area, too much to list. I have to mention the welcoming cake made by the owner, who I think could have won bake off.

Positives - huge house, clean, good sports facilities, nice people, good location. Negatives- poor/no Wi-fi, poor cooking facilities ( hob keeps tripping out) , other people from outside the cottages come and use the pool.
