This charming, detached cottage, originally the old telephone exchange, has been transformed into a cosy and welcoming retreat. Situated in a truly magical location, in its own private bay only 20 yards from the sea, Portamaggie Cottage boasts sea views from most of the accommodation. Accessed via a steep rough track, the property is surrounded by cliffs and located at the base of Killantringam Lighthouse, this is a location that has to be experienced. The icing on the cake has to be the private hot tub that takes advantage of the views out to sea.
A walker’s paradise, the cottage is situated on the Southern Upland Way, and offers clifftop and moorland walks direct from the door. The lovely sandy beach at Knock Bay is only a 5-minute walk from the cottage and is very popular for sea fishing. Wildlife is abundant and the area has many marine visitors such as porpoise, dolphin and minke whale. The area is also popular with bird watchers, with many species to spot. There are many coastal villages to explore in the area, with the pretty harbour village of Portpatrick located only 3 miles away with restaurants, shops and a golf course. The town of Stranraer is approximately 8 miles and offers a selection of shops, restaurants and pubs and Port Patrick is only 3 miles away. Why not enjoy a day trip to Ireland, which can be taken from Cairnryan? Beach 20 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

A fabulous bolt hole for those searching for peace, solitude and privacy. The wild seas, spectacular sunsets and coastal walks made for a great holiday and would strongly recommend for anyone if these are items on your bucket holiday list. However a couple of words of warning. The single track road to the lighthouse is very good but when you turn off to the cottage the track is gravel and the last 100 yards is steep and rocky and ideally you need a 4x4 . I haven't and got my car down ok but i had 5 attempts to get it out. There is a parking space at the top of the track which is a good place to leave your whilst you stay. That said, do not be put off you won't be disappointed!

No info that the cottage is at bottom of steep hill only that it’s on rough track on website!! But over the telephone they said rough track all on same level!! got car stuck on stones on hill reversed up and buggad clutch had to get it replaced whilst here lovely £2.3k from Audi thanks cottages.com!! Spent more looking for an Audi and arranging to get car there. should be more info about the hill, Owner said there was enough info (rough track) no keys had to walk to farm in pouring rain lovely elderly guy sorted some keys indicated other guests had cars issues with the hill. Nice property with great views nearby towns afew miles away. Don’t forget to turn shower cord to off or heating won’t turn on. Best to park as you come through the cottage Signed gate thes a little bit of flat grass on the right to park, downside carrying luggage and shopping up and down hill. I personally wouldn’t go back holiday was ruined before we even got inside property

Couldn't fault the location, perfect for two, cottage clean and warm. The owner kindly allows dogs and as dog owners who always clean up after our dog, we were disappointed to find plenty of evidence in the garden that some owners dont, it's a shame that a few irresponsible owners dont share our appreciation of cottage owners allowing us to take to take our pets with us.

Great remote location for a quiet relaxing break. Just stock up with food and drink and you won't want to stray from this lovely cottage.

We decided to book again after only one night which has to be the best feedback we can give! Peace and quiet, gorgeous scenery, hot tub a bonus, good wifi speed and mobile signal for those of us that have to be in touch with the outside world! If there was one downside, it was the mattress which was a little soft for us, but that is down to individual taste. Also the stairs (the angle of which are very similar to a loft ladder but of solid construction) may be a problem for some people but this is mentioned when booking and there is a photo on the website.
