This attractive former farmhouse occupies a unique position overlooking Arlington Reservoir, enjoying delightful views and peaceful surroundings.

Residing just a few yards from the water’s edge and close to the South Downs National Park, this beautiful oak-beamed farmhouse, where parts date back to the 18th century, comprises two self-contained holiday cottages. The house originally resided on the side of a hill, overlooking a meander in the Cuckmere River. Polhills is the perfect rural escape for families and couples alike, providing ample room for guests to relax and unwind, or head out and explore this extensive location.
Guests can spot over 170 species of birds including herons, kingfishers, woodpeckers, reed warblers and even ospreys form the bird hides. It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and is ideal for wildlife and walking enthusiasts, as there is a path that circles the reservoir. It is also a haven for keen fishermen, as it provides some of the best trout fishing in the south east. Permits can be purchased at the fishing lodge close by.
Cyclists can enjoy Cycle Route 2, which joins with Route 21, the Cuckoo Trail. Drusillas Zoo, Beachy Head, Charleston Farm House, Glyndbourne, Michelham Priory and the delightful village of Alfriston are all close by and well worth a visit. There is a station within easy reach providing good transport links to London for further sightseeing opportunities. Beach 7 miles. Shop 1½ miles, two dog friendly pubs 1 mile.
Polhills (UKC1351) and Polhills Cottage (UKC1352) can be booked together to accommodate up to 10 guests.

    A very nicely decorated and fitted-out cottage in a good location which would sleep six comfortably. However, there are a couple of features that perhaps would be better explained on the website. It is stated that the dogs are welcome at the property but there are certain restrictions made apparent in the information book once in the house - not upstairs, not on furniture and not left alone in the house; this should really be clear before booking. While the headline states two bathrooms this is a bit of a stretch; there is one fully equipped bathroom upstairs, a separate toilet downstairs and a walk-in shower in the downstairs utility room - not ideal. Finally, there is a pub within a mile but it does require a walk down country lanes partly without footpaths - dangerous at night.

    A beautiful and comfortable cottage, perfect for a cosy winter weekend. Plenty to do in the area as well. We loved it .

    Polhills is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need and more. There was a very thoughtful welcome pack on arrival. The cottage was very clean and everything worked perfectly. Thank you for a truly memorable and relaxing family holiday

    Polhills is a wonderful place to relax in with all its home comforts, beautiful garden and stunning views over the reservoir. It was a very happy cottage to stay in. The owners left a very generous welcome pack which was much appreciated. There are many lovely walks in the immediate area and plenty of interesting places to visit close by. A car is really needed but it is under a mile to the nearest station on the Brighton-Hastings line which has an hourly service from Berwick. Highly recommended.
