It is a large, south-facing, detached, family home, which has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The property is spacious and is ideal for family or friends to get together. It is set in 2 acres of enclosed garden with terraces and well-positioned seating to enjoy the sun all day. This is the perfect location for beach holidays, walking, cycling, birdwatching and surfing.

Abbotskerswell village has a good food pub, shop, café and church, mid-way between the edge of Dartmoor at Ashburton with local shops, cafés and restaurants, and the seaside resort of Torquay, which has a theatre, good shopping and harbour. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks to explore, with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing, angling and to study the natural wildlife at leisure. Stunning views are to be seen just about everywhere across the bay, out over the English Channel, along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill, or inland towards the tors of Dartmoor.

This is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. Paignton with its zoo, steam railway and sandy beaches are worth a visit. Brixham makes a great day out with its fishing port or catch the boat from Torquay. Explore Totnes, an attractive old town on the River Dart, with river cruises to Dartmouth, where you can visit castles, go shopping or just take in the sights. For golf enthusiasts, a golf course can be found 1 mile away. Newton Abbot, an old market town, is 2 miles away. Discover National Trust castles at Compton, 3 miles and Berry Pomeroy. There are many other NT places to visit, including Greenway, Agatha Christie’s summer home. Explore Dartmoor, with its rocky tors, wild ponies, exquisite walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, falconry and golf at Bovey Castle, an award-winning course. Don’t forget to stop for a cream tea in one of the many tea shops on Dartmoor. Within a few miles are the two picturesque villages of Chagford and Mortenhampstead, with historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, curiosity shops, tennis courts and the Miniature Pony Centre. There is so much to do in this part of Devon, one visit will not be enough! Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

We loved our week at Plum Tree Cottage. It's a spacious and very well appointed house with beautiful gardens and was even better than it looked in the photos/description. It's well situated on the edge of Abbotskerswell so within walking distance of the local shop, café and pub but away from school traffic etc. The locals were friendly and very helpful, suggesting dog-friendly routes for walks along local footpaths and bridleways as well as options slightly further afield. The welcome hamper was wonderful (and greatly appreciated) including local produce and some excellent home-made chutney!

Lovely spacious well equipped property with a beautiful garden in a great location. However, for a 5* it lacked attention to detail in the areas of bathroom fittings, bed linen needs upgrading and grass cuttings not collected (walked into property). Overall we had a lovely family holiday with a warm welcome from the owners.

A beautiful cottage with plenty of space for everyone. The gardens were a delight with loads of seating in sunny spots. The house was clean, well equipped, and had the most comfortable beds of any house we have ever stayed in. The only disappointment was that although it was advertised as pets welcome when we arrived there was a note to say dogs are ONLY allowed in the kitchen and utility rooms, we felt it was very unfair to only mention this on arrival, We expected that dogs are not allowed upstairs but expected our well behaved dog to be allowed in all downstairs rooms to relax with us. We may have chosen a different cottage had we known in advance of booking. That said the owner was very helpful when we had an issue with WIFI. It was sorted out quickly and she sent us a text to ensure it was resolved, so thank you for that and also for the lovely welcome hamper . We would recommend the house to anyone as long as the pet policy isn’t an issue, it is a wonderful house in an ideal location with delightful gardens.

Response on behalf of the Owner; So glad you had an enjoyable time at Plumtree. Sorry about the issue with the dogs, our own dogs stay mostly in their pen, kitchen & utility room so I didn’t think this would be an issue. However, we will look to changing this next year & allow dogs in the down stair rooms.

Beautiful setting and a lovely property, furnished to a good standard. The grounds are vast and ideal for family sports! Ideal location for exploring Dartmoor, Torquay and Paington...nowhere we wanted to visit was more than 20 minutes away. The Village itself offers very little in the way of amenities, although the Shop has the essentials. A Fish & Chips Van visits on Mondays from 4-6pm outside the shop with good food. A very enjoyable Holiday
