What we love

Description

A delightful, and deceptively spacious, converted railway carriage set in a quiet garden location, and yet within easy reach of the exciting City of Canterbury. The perfect retreat for couples, and pet friendly too.

Ground Floor
Open plan living space: Kingsize bed, small wardrobe, chest of drawers, two seater sofa and armchair, wood burner, Smart TV, bookcase
Kitchen: breakfast bar, electric oven and hob, microwave
Bathroom: roll top bath, separate shower cubicle, WC and basin

Outside
Enclosed garden with bistro garden table and chairs, bike rack
Separate utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer

Plumcot Halt is named after the fruit tree in the garden, the Plumcot Tree which produces a delicious hybrid half plum, half apricot fruit and the Halt is, of course, the reference to the railway carriage which creates a delightful romantic retreat for couples.
The carriage is deceptively spacious inside with a cosy open plan living and sleeping space, a cosy wood burner, a separate kitchen and a bathroom which even has both a roll top bath and a shower cubicle. The owners have decorated the carriage in gorgeous Romany style primary colours to create a cheerful atmosphere, and outside is a small enclosed garden with bistro table and chairs under the Plumcot tree.
Plumcot has its own little private wildflower and orchard garden that in spring is rich with bluebells, tulips and daffodils and species such as primroses, aconites, snakeshead fritillaries and cowslips that nestle under the blossom of two apple trees a Pear tree and of course the plumcot tree. The main garden of the house through which visitors must walk is a much treasured plantsman’s garden that contains a number of rare and unusual plants from around the world where the emphasis is on foliage, scent and a long flowering season. It contains a number of magnolias, peonies, lilacs and sweet smelling roses and is arranged in an informal style to encourage wildlife and insects.
Located on the outskirts of the city, the property is a 20 minute walk into the city centre and in the other direction, a few minutes takes you into the open countryside, great for hiking and dog walking. Add to this a private parking space, and the great location and Plumcot Halt provides everything you could want for a short break or week long holiday in Canterbury.

Plumcott Halt is a fantastic wonderfully restored railway carriage, fitted out with all mod cons. Set in the lovely garden of its owner Michael, it is an idyllic setting to visit Canterbury and the surrounding areas. It is only a 15 to 20 minute walk into Canterbury so no need to drive in. There are a couple of nice dog friendly pubs on Wincheap Road at the bottom of the road on the walk into, or home form Canbterury. Michael is very kind, and welcoming and nothing is too much bother, plus any information you need you can just ask and he will help you. Plumcott Halt made for a romantic anniversary getaway for my Wife and I, we shall stay here again if we come back to the area because of the comfort, and location.

A wonderful conversion of a railway carriage to a comfortable, light and contemporary living space. Attention to detail is obviously a priority for the owners who are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The winding pathway through the garden leads to the secluded carriage home which is private and secure. We spent three nights here in late Summer and explored the city and cathedral which is within easy walking distance. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay at Plumcott. The limited space has been very carefully thought out and there are lots of homely touches which made our stay even better. The local area has some lovely walks and it's very handy to walk to Canterbury. Highly recommended.

Very well appointed and cosy accommodation. Just right for our holiday to see Canterbury and Whitstable. Walked into Canterbury and back with excellent weather. Garden is a treat and kept the property shaded and cool. We took a fan as the weather forecast was hot and that was a good idea. The property was well equipped and we could not fault it for anything missing. Would hope to stay again if we are ever in that direction.

This quirky converted railway wagon is absolutely perfect for a couple with a dog. It is so clean and tidy with everything you could possibly require. We loved it, as did our dog, Crumble. You could almost manage without a car here as it is so near to Canterbury and has all the amenities nearby, yet is peaceful and private. The owners are very friendly but also respect your privacy. We would highly recommend it.
