Couples or a small family will love this cottage, which is well placed for discovering the Ayrshire coastline, villages and wildlife.

This spacious, semi-detached cottage, converted from a former stone barn, is situated on the owner’s working farm and lies within walking distance of the quiet village of Lochwinnoch, which has several pubs and restaurants. Surrounded by open countryside, the area is a popular location for walkers and cyclists and is a haven for wildlife, with the RSPB nature reserve and 18 hole golf course close by. A short drive takes you to the the bustling seaside town of Largs with shops, restaurants and promenade. This cottage is ideally located to explore the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and the Isle of Bute. Ferries also run to Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula. The nearby Erskine Bridge gives access to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore, and is an ideal location for cyclists and walkers with Skelmorlie heralding the start of the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100-mile long coastal walk. Inland there is walking, cycling, gardens and castles to visit, riding, fishing, racing and a choice of golf courses, including the world famous Turnberry. Culzean Castle Country Park, extending over 550 acres, has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day trip, with rail links available from Lochwinnoch. Beach 10 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Oil central heating, oil, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Initial logs for open fire included, remainder at £5 per basket. Travel cot and highchair available on request. Welcome pack. Large lawned garden (shared with owner). Sitting-out area with garden furniture. Bike store. Private parking for 2 cars. 2 dogs welcome - to be kept on a lead at all times (working farm). No smoking. Please note: This property has a security deposit of £100.

    They advertise WiFi it’s non existent. The cooker doesn’t work we had lots of visits to fix and got Told leave it 30 mins to heat up! The dishwasher and washing machine needs to run twice up get any sort of clean. They called our dogs mutts but made out pet friendly! I would say very much not, lovely location but everything else let’s it down

    Response on behalf of the owner; We were disappointed and somewhat surprised to read your review following your stay at Plantlymoss Cottage. In the 17 months of renting out the property, the way you left the property is by some margin the most shocking we have experienced. Specifically addressing some of the points you raised in your review: rural wifi, as explained in our welcome pack, can be unreliable and has limitations. No one else has struggled to use the cooker and the instructions are contained in the welcome pack. We are therefore perplexed as to your inability to work it. As to the operating capability of the other white goods, we appreciate you drawing possible deficiencies to our attention. We will of course have these checked over immediately. We utterly refute your suggestion our property is not dog friendly. Unfortunately, you did not adhere to any of the pet friendly policies outlined on Cottages.Com literature, namely that pets are not to be left in a property unattended, which yours were all day, every day of the working week. As such, you left dogs to bark and freely roam the whole of the cottage, soiling furniture, carpets and leaving what appears to be urine stains on the oak flooring. Further, given the property resides on a working farm, there are extensive fields and country lanes surrounding the property within which to walk and exercise your dogs. Our final point on our property being dog friendly, that despite providing poo-bags you failed to clean up after your dogs and left that for us to do. We cannot understand why you asked to stay on for an extra 3 nights if you had such a bad experience. To our way of thinking, this is at odds with your unjustified review. As you did not choose this property for a holiday – but a stopgap between homes - I understand why this would not be your first choice of holiday accommodation.
