Description

This ’pretty in pink’ cottage is perfect any time of the year, with a cosy wood burner for cooler days and a barbecue for al fresco summer dining.

Just a 5-minute drive from the bustling, picturesque coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea, and yet tucked away in a rural enclave offering views across open countryside. Pink Cottage is semi-detached and offers everything you need for a relaxing coastal break, and has a large enclosed garden to the rear with a barbecue, and a sitting-out area that’s perfect for summer guests. The living room has a wood burner that will provide cosy evenings for winter visitors, making Pink Cottage a perfect year round retreat. One of a small group of cottages once belonging to the Holkham Estate, the cottages must remain pink to maintain their heritage and they provide a pretty burst of colour to this picturesque area.
Wells-next-the-Sea is a great gateway to the beautiful North Norfolk coast, with its much photographed quay and quaint narrow gauge railway that takes you to the wide sandy beach. Travel east or west from here and you will find a coastline line littered with pretty villages, with sandy and shingle beaches, marshes and quays, all of which make great terrain for sunbathing, swimming, walking, cycling, watersports and bird watching.
With nearby access to the Peddars Way and north Norfolk coastal path amongst many other walking trails, the area is great for walkers and for guests bringing their dogs. For those interested in the local wildlife, the well known Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley Marshes nature reserve, RSPB Titchwell Marshes reserve and Pensthorpe Natural Park are all under 12 miles from the cottage and boat trips to view the colonies of seals are available from nearby Blakeney and Morston. The Sealife Sanctuary at Hunstanton, and the Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade are also easily accessible. You will also find many National Trust properties and stately homes such as the Holkham Estate, Sandringham and Blickling Hall. This perfect bolt hole is under 2 miles away from the picturesque village of Walsingham, with shops including an award winning farm shop and deli, which specialises in Norfolk produce, along with pubs, a café, restaurant, shrine, abbey and priory ruins. A short drive could also take you to either the lovely Georgian village of Burnham Market or to the market town of Holt, both boasting an array of specialist independent shops, galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants. In fact, there is so much to see and do here all year round you will need to return just to fit it all in. And, having fallen in love with Pink Cottage, you’ll be back there too. Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location. Fabulous for a family holiday and great for the dog too !

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you so much for taking the time to review Pink Cottage and for giving us a perfect 10 score. We are so pleased that you had a great summer holiday and that you appreciated everything about the cottage and its location in fabulous North Norfolk. We really hope to welcome you again on another occasion and would encourage you to consider the area during the autumn or winter too. Thurston is approximately a 10 minute drive away and hosts the wonderful Christmas Spectacular and Santa's Magical Journey in November and December, which really have to be seen. Check out the website: www.thursford.com/christmas-spectacular. Beaches at this time of year are beautiful and empty, prices are lower and the local pubs are snug with log fires and hearty suppers, and of course are mostly dog friendly. There are countless amazing places to head off to on glorious windswept walks and cosy Pink Cottage will be there for you on your return, with its wood burner and large selection of books, board games, jigsaws and DVDs for relaxing times back home. Don't forget to bring the hot chocolate.

Great cottage extremely well equipped for families. My son was very excited by all the toys. Equally kitchen and overall cottage had everything we needed. I could have packed a lot lighter. Great large enclosed garden and the conservatory was a lovely area for breakfast and dinner. Close to Fakenham and all the local ammenities we needed. The location means you need a car which wasn’t a problem for us but may be an issue for people who want to walk more.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for taking the time to give your review of Pink Cottage. We are so glad that you had such a great holiday, that the cottage provided everything that you needed and that you enjoyed the lovely area of North Norfolk. You are correct that a car is useful whilst visiting, as most of the local attractions, beaches and amenities in the area are a short drive often just a few minutes from the cottage. It is also possible however to enjoy some beautiful countryside walks or cycle trips directly from our front door which is a particular boon to guests with dogs. We often enjoy such local walks during our own family visits. If guests would like to bring bikes, there is storage space available for cycles in a hidden section to the rear of the summer house for guest use. We are so glad that your son enjoyed the toys. We do try to provide entertainment options including books, games, toys and DVD’s to suit a large variety of age groups including children, teens and grown-ups. Thanks so much for choosing Pink Cottage for your holiday. We really hope to welcome you back again in the future.

In the kitchen there was a constant stream of flies and when one tries to cook it is quite disgusting. Flies were also in the conservatory so couldn't eat there. It was reported in the visitors book by another customer about the flies .Defintiely not what I would call 4 star!!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We at Pink Cottage are very surprised and upset by the extremely low scores that you have given the cottage and whilst we appreciate that you took the time to give your opinion, we would take serious issue with the scores and comments made. At no time did you contact the seven day a week cleaning and maintenance service that we provide at the cottage and as such, we were not informed that you had any issue at all, let alone the one with flies, during your stay. If you had contacted us, we would have responded immediately to try to resolve the situation. Please be assured that the fly problem was swiftly fixed once we were made aware. It appears that whilst you visited, the cottage had an issue with cluster flies. These can occur in any home, at any time, but are particularly common in rural Britain and France. Cluster flies live in grassy areas and can emerge in warm weather. We note that you were blessed with a particularly wonderful week weather-wise and Pink Cottage is surrounded by glorious open countryside and this may have led to the problem on this one occasion. Even the Wimbledon Tennis tournament has had insect issues in this recent very warm weather. Indeed, cluster flies are not in any way caused by a lack of cleanliness and do not carry any disease. We do understand however, that because they can suddenly appear in large numbers, that they can be a real nuisance and whilst we have never previously had a problem with them at Pink Cottage, this issue could have easily been dealt with by our cleaning team. The team is used to this problem having had experience of it in other properties. We also take issue with the low scores for comfort and equipment. All furniture and equipment is exactly as described on the cottage agency website and most guests describe the cottage as providing everything that they need and having quality decor and furnishings. All amenities were newly purchased for the cottage and are regularly maintained and swiftly replaced if damaged. Pink Cottage is a much loved family second home. As such, it contains the high standard of furniture and equipment that we expect for our own family and we would want to offer nothing less for our guests, as we know how important and precious time away with family can be. We have young children of our own and would not be happy with them being around substandard equipment and furniture. I note that you did not travel with children, but know that many guests who are couples or travel as groups of adult friends are equally as happy with the facilities that are offered, as are those with youngsters in tow. To give the cottage a score of just one out of ten for location is disingenuous to say the least. The cottage is exactly as described, in a rural location, close to all the great amenities that are available along the wonderful North Norfolk Coast. A very short drive will take you to the fabulous beaches, some great villages and towns, lovely shops, art galleries, restaurants, beautiful walks, historic sites, stately homes and nature reserves. North Norfolk is indeed blessed in terms of all that it offers to visitors. We are astounded that you found nothing that you could appreciate in this lovely area of the country. Finally, if I may address your comment that the cottage is not 4 star quality. Please be assured that the cottage rating is not determined by ourselves, but is instead rated as a result of an independent assessment by accredited Visit England inspectors, using their stringent standards. As part of the Visit England accreditation, a score is awarded for quality for every aspect of the layout and design of the accommodation, the ease of use of all the appliances, the comfort of the beds, the range and quality of kitchen equipment and cleanliness. The more stars, the higher the quality and the greater the range of facilities and services provided. Indeed, although the cottage has been given a four star rating, the last inspector commented that it was close to the even higher rating of ‘four star gold’ status. We’re not quite there yet, but we are keenly working towards this. We are constantly striving to improve our facilities and guest experience. We really want the cottage to provide all of our guests with a really fantastic, relaxing and good value for money break. We are really sorry that the cottage and North Norfolk did not meet your expectations on this occasion, but feel that we do offer a high quality, good value product. It’s a holiday experience beloved by our own family and based upon the majority of comments on Reevoo or in our own visitor’s book; it is appreciated by most others too.

Beautifully furnished and pretty cottage with everything you could need... perfect for family with older or no children. For us the stairs were very steep and right outside the rooms with single beds in, so with a three year old on board we ended up having him sleep on a mattress in our room as we couldn't risk leaving him in a bed in one of the other rooms in case he walked straight out and fell down the stairs. This was a bit annoying as we had purposely rented (and therefore paid more for) a cottage where he could have his own room so did impact on everyone's sleep considerably. We now have a travel stairgate but didn't have one beforehand - the cottage is so well equipped for small children generally, perhaps they could supply one too (they're very cheap). Great info on local sights, the best supply of leaflets we've ever come across! Also really appreciate the supply of toys, but would be handy to know about those beforehand so we would have brought fewer of our own with us! Directions to the cottage were totally inaccurate, down to the name of the road, so we are glad we stumbled upon it by accident in the end. Overall a lovely cottage though in peaceful but handy location for lots to do and see, and furnished beautifully with a super garden too.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your great scores and lovely comments about the cottage. We are so glad that you had a good holiday. Please accept our apologies that there wasn’t a stair gate at the property for you to use. There is usually one there. It is generally stored along with the travel cot under one of the beds in the twin room, but it appears to have somehow gone missing before your arrival and unfortunately our cleaners didn’t notice this when they prepared the cottage for you. On occasion, as within our own homes, things do get broken and sometimes guests throw them away and forget to notify us via the book located in the property for this purpose. For future guests information, if on arrival at the cottage you find that something is missing from the cottage, please call our 7 day a week troubleshooting service and we’ll do our very best to get what you need to you as quickly as possible. Also if you do have a breakage whilst at the cottage, please write about it in the notebook provided. We totally understand that accidents do sometimes happen and it is very helpful to us to be notified, so that we can replace items for future guests use. Please be assured that a new stair gate has now been purchased and reinstated at the cottage. We love to welcome younger guests and have provided a stair gate, high chair and travel cot along with some Peppa Pig toys, a wooden train set, Duplo and lots of bedtime story books for them to enjoy. Thank you for choosing Pink Cottage for your family break. We really hope that you will stay with us again sometime soon.

Lovely family cottage with quality furnishings in a great location for access to North Coast. Well equipped just let down from 9 as in need of a little tlc maintenance e.g. bathroom doors difficult to close & lock :audio cables for dvd loose & constantly slip off. Lack of detailed instructions eg to operate dvd need to change input on tv.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday, liked the quality of furnishings and rated Pink Cottage so highly for comfort and equipment, location, cleanliness and value for money. We are sorry however that you encountered a couple of small maintenance problems with the DVD player and bathroom door when at the cottage and this resulted in you giving a lower overall score. Unfortunately, as within our own homes, things can on occasion go wrong. This is why at Pink Cottage a maintenance and troubleshooting company is employed on a 7 day a week basis, so that if there is an issue, big or small, this can be resolved for our guests as quickly as possible and customers can get on with having a great holiday. If you had informed this service of the DVD and bathroom lock issues, these would have been resolved straight away, but as your concerns were not communicated to us, this didn't happen. Please be assured that these minor maintenance issues have now been resolved and I would encourage any future guests to report any concerns as soon as possible. Our maintenance service will then work to remedy the issue and ensure that you have a wonderful break. The telephone number of the Pink Cottage maintenance and troubleshooting service is located in the cottage next to the visitors book. Thanks for choosing Pink Cottage for your holiday, we hope to be able to welcome you back again in the future.

What a beautiful cottage dogs love it

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for giving Pink Cottage such great scores. We are so glad that you and your dogs had a wonderful holiday. We enjoy welcoming dogs to Pink Cottage and have a fully enclosed garden to keep them entertained. As you no doubt found, North Norfolk is very dog friendly. There are so many fantastic walks nearby, both on the coast and inland and most of the wonderful local beaches have areas open to dogs in addition to dog free areas. Many of our great local restaurants and pubs are also happy to welcome well behaved dogs, which means that you can always reward yourself with a wonderful meal or pint at the end of a scenic dog walk. If your pooch needs even more pampering whilst on their holidays, our nearby farm shop also sells locally made designer dog treats that are always immensely popular with our four footed guests.
