Description

This ’pretty in pink’ cottage is perfect any time of the year, with a cosy wood burner for cooler days and a barbecue for al fresco summer dining.

Just a 5-minute drive from the bustling, picturesque coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea, and yet tucked away in a rural enclave offering views across open countryside. Pink Cottage is semi-detached and offers everything you need for a relaxing coastal break, and has a large enclosed garden to the rear with a barbecue, and a sitting-out area that’s perfect for summer guests. The living room has a wood burner that will provide cosy evenings for winter visitors, making Pink Cottage a perfect year round retreat. One of a small group of cottages once belonging to the Holkham Estate, the cottages must remain pink to maintain their heritage and they provide a pretty burst of colour to this picturesque area.
Wells-next-the-Sea is a great gateway to the beautiful North Norfolk coast, with its much photographed quay and quaint narrow gauge railway that takes you to the wide sandy beach. Travel east or west from here and you will find a coastline line littered with pretty villages, with sandy and shingle beaches, marshes and quays, all of which make great terrain for sunbathing, swimming, walking, cycling, watersports and bird watching.
With nearby access to the Peddars Way and north Norfolk coastal path amongst many other walking trails, the area is great for walkers and for guests bringing their dogs. For those interested in the local wildlife, the well known Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley Marshes nature reserve, RSPB Titchwell Marshes reserve and Pensthorpe Natural Park are all under 12 miles from the cottage and boat trips to view the colonies of seals are available from nearby Blakeney and Morston. The Sealife Sanctuary at Hunstanton, and the Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade are also easily accessible. You will also find many National Trust properties and stately homes such as the Holkham Estate, Sandringham and Blickling Hall. This perfect bolt hole is under 2 miles away from the picturesque village of Walsingham, with shops including an award winning farm shop and deli, which specialises in Norfolk produce, along with pubs, a café, restaurant, shrine, abbey and priory ruins. A short drive could also take you to either the lovely Georgian village of Burnham Market or to the market town of Holt, both boasting an array of specialist independent shops, galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants. In fact, there is so much to see and do here all year round you will need to return just to fit it all in. And, having fallen in love with Pink Cottage, you’ll be back there too. Beach 3½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Very warm and comfortable house. Garden and conservatory a particular asset - even in the foul December weather. Good location away from everything but handy for the coast and inland.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Pink Cottage, it is indeed very cosy and warm even in bad weather. As a family, we really enjoy the log burner in the living room on colder days. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the conservatory, it is a lovely spot at any time of the year, as the heating keeps it toasty warm in winter and it rewards us with views of fantastic sunsets over the adjacent farmland in the Spring and Summer. We are often lucky enough to view some wildlife from the conservatory too, as barn owls and a myriad of other bird life are frequently spotted. We have also seen deer, hares and are sometimes visited by peacocks which are escapees from the nearby Holkham estate.

I love this cottage. The water was hot, showers good, central heating good and easily controlled. Very nice welcome pack. All the things you could ever need in the kitchen. Nice interior decor. Great garden for the dogs. The location is excellent to explore all the best North Norfolk attractions especially the lovely sandy beaches. I want to live here. I hope to be back soon.

We had a great holiday at this cottage. We had some rainy days and there were enough toys /DVds to keep the children entertained, then on the dry days we headed straight to the beach. Great holiday, thank you.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you so much for your lovely comments. we are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and that the DVDs, books and games at the cottage enhanced your stay. We do work hard to ensure that there is lots of entertainment at the cottage to suit all age groups. Our family love to curl up at Pink Cottage on an autumn or winters evening, next to a roaring fire in the log burner, sipping a hot chocolate or something stronger for grown ups, whilst watching a classic film on the box or playing a family board game.

We had a wonderful week in the Pink Cottage. As my 3 year old granddaughter wandered around she said ' This house is beautiful' . The milk was perfect for the 'end of journey' mug of tea, along with a slice of cake. The bottle of wine was opened later. Thank you The garden was a great size for our two greyhounds. The cottage is set on a very quiet road with the sea about 5 mins in one direction and supermarkets/petrol station about 10 mins in the other direction. We are planning to visit the area again some time next year.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your wonderful comments. We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed Pink Cottage. We are particularly pleased that your three-year-old granddaughter enjoyed her stay as we try very hard to have some special touches at the cottage to suit all age groups. We hope that she enjoyed the Peppa Pig toys, wooden train set and Duplo and that these helped to make for a more enjoyable stay for parents and grandparents too. We are so pleased that you also enjoyed North Norfolk and are planning to return. Our family love this area and we can find lots to do whatever the time of year. A blustery winter walk on one of our vast local beaches with dogs, with a welcome pub lunch at the end, is hard to beat. We really hope that we can welcome you back to Pink Cottage for your next Norfolk break.

Lovely cottage in a good, quiet location for accessing local beaches. I would have rated the cottage higher but we were without hot water and heating until just before we were due to leave. Although it was difficult to contact the owner, once we did, she did her best to resolve the issue and thankfully compensated us. We would definitely stay again with heating and hot water next time

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comment that this is a lovely cottage and that you would like to visit again. Unfortunately, as you stated, you had issues with the hot water and heating during the last day or so of your break. As within our own homes, sometimes things do go wrong. In this case, it seems that the gauge on the oil tank, which provides fuel for the cottage, had developed a fault. It was showing the oil tank as three quarters full and yet it was empty. You yourself commented, when we were first made aware of heating issues, that it was not due to a lack of oil. Once made aware of the heating situation we booked a heating engineer to attend and come out to test the tank. On realising that it was indeed empty, we organised an emergency delivery of oil, which arrived on the same day albeit later in the evening. Although not the usual, regular method, the cottage does have a backup system for heating water, provided by the immersion heater in the airing cupboard. This was available to you so that you had some hot water. Unfortunately, with five adults staying and all trying to have showers at the start of the day, this was not fully effective, as the immersion system heats water much more slowly. As a result, I organised for you to have the use of a neighbour’s vacant holiday home and had it cleaned etc. so that you had access to a good hot water supply and warm showers for the full five adults. At just a couple of doors away, I understand that this wasn’t ideal, but hope that this wasn’t too inconvenient and was sufficient for your last day away. In addition, as you mentioned, you were also given some financial recompense for your inconvenience. I understand that you had difficulty getting hold of me as an Owner. Unfortunately, I was out of my house and you had only been given my landline number by the cottage agency. In future, I have asked them to give my mobile number so that guests can always easily contact me. In addition, please will future guests note that there is also a local seven day a week, cleaning, maintenance and general troubleshooting service provided at Pink Cottage. If there are any issues at all, guests are encouraged to use this number located next to the visitor’s book in the living room, as this will provide a very swift response to try to rectify any issues. Thank you again for choosing Pink Cottage. Apologies for the oil tank problem on this occasion, but we really hope that you will choose us for your holiday sometime in the future.

This could be a great cottage. It is spacious, has a big garden and is well located. The cottage was cleaned before our arrival, but didn’t feel and smell clean. Mainly due to the worn down state of the upholstery. The owners really need to put some TLC in the place, throw out old and tatty furniture and fresh up the interior. In this state it is not worth the rate we paid and I would not recommend it.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments that Pink Cottage is well located and spacious with a large garden. We at Pink Cottage are concerned that you were troubled by cleanliness standards, as the cottage was thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival. The lack of smelling clean may be down to the fact that we try, wherever possible, to use cleaning products that are more environmentally friendly and therefore we tend to avoid products with strong artificial and often chemical pine scents and we certainly avoid strongly scented air fresheners. We take standards of cleanliness very seriously and are extremely sorry if our standards did not meet your expectations on this occasion. Most guests give us exemplary scores in this regard and we always view this aspect of our guest experience as one of the most important. At no point, however, did you inform the cleaning team of any concerns. For future guests information, if there are any concerns at all, please don’t hesitate to call the 24 hour, 7 day a week cleaning and maintenance service that we offer at Pink Cottage and we will do our utmost to resolve any issues straight away. We cannot address any customer concerns, when we are not informed. The phone number for this service is located next to the visitor’s book in the living room. We take issue with your comments about the furniture. There were indeed a couple of minor marks on the sofas, from some previous guests and we apologise for this. However, these were small and although we did spot clean them as much as possible, the cleaning team were not able to deep clean the sofas in their entirety, during the few hours of change over cleaning time available before your arrival. You would have had soaking wet sofas for days. We apologise for these small marks, but hope that they didn’t spoil your break. Please be assured that these have now been resolved completely and the sofas have received a professional deep clean. We are not sure as to why you described the upholstery as worn down in your comments. There are absolutely no worn out marks or patches on any of the upholstery; the sofas are only a few years old and the cushions, throws and window blinds are in a very good, practically new condition, as these are regularly replaced when they become worn or damaged. Also, we take issue with the comment that the cottage has old and tatty furniture that should be replaced. Pink Cottage has a mix of more modern, contemporary and vintage/antique furniture. We feel that this gives the cottage some style, character and interest and this type of interior decor is our preference. We did not want the cottage to be decorated purely in a cookie cutter style, all purchased from the big identikit furniture stores that can be found all over the world. Instead, the furniture at Pink Cottage has been carefully chosen to reflect its seaside location in North Norfolk. We have deliberately chosen a whitewashed /driftwood coastal palette with some cosy textural elements in blankets and cushions along with some locally sourced artwork and decorative objects. The inclusion of some vintage , shabby-chic pieces of furniture and decoration is deliberate and these in our view, quirky and extra special touches, should not be viewed as simply tatty and old, but we hope give our guests a taste of local colour and style. Indeed, the interior decoration is one of the things that most guests comment in our visitor’s book and in online reviews as being one of the highlights of the cottage and of their stay. We do understand however, that no interior decor can ever match everyone’s personal style and are sorry that our choices were not to your own taste.

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location. Fabulous for a family holiday and great for the dog too !

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you so much for taking the time to review Pink Cottage and for giving us a perfect 10 score. We are so pleased that you had a great summer holiday and that you appreciated everything about the cottage and its location in fabulous North Norfolk. We really hope to welcome you again on another occasion and would encourage you to consider the area during the autumn or winter too. Thurston is approximately a 10 minute drive away and hosts the wonderful Christmas Spectacular and Santa's Magical Journey in November and December, which really have to be seen. Check out the website: www.thursford.com/christmas-spectacular. Beaches at this time of year are beautiful and empty, prices are lower and the local pubs are snug with log fires and hearty suppers, and of course are mostly dog friendly. There are countless amazing places to head off to on glorious windswept walks and cosy Pink Cottage will be there for you on your return, with its wood burner and large selection of books, board games, jigsaws and DVDs for relaxing times back home. Don't forget to bring the hot chocolate.

Great cottage extremely well equipped for families. My son was very excited by all the toys. Equally kitchen and overall cottage had everything we needed. I could have packed a lot lighter. Great large enclosed garden and the conservatory was a lovely area for breakfast and dinner. Close to Fakenham and all the local ammenities we needed. The location means you need a car which wasn’t a problem for us but may be an issue for people who want to walk more.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for taking the time to give your review of Pink Cottage. We are so glad that you had such a great holiday, that the cottage provided everything that you needed and that you enjoyed the lovely area of North Norfolk. You are correct that a car is useful whilst visiting, as most of the local attractions, beaches and amenities in the area are a short drive often just a few minutes from the cottage. It is also possible however to enjoy some beautiful countryside walks or cycle trips directly from our front door which is a particular boon to guests with dogs. We often enjoy such local walks during our own family visits. If guests would like to bring bikes, there is storage space available for cycles in a hidden section to the rear of the summer house for guest use. We are so glad that your son enjoyed the toys. We do try to provide entertainment options including books, games, toys and DVD’s to suit a large variety of age groups including children, teens and grown-ups. Thanks so much for choosing Pink Cottage for your holiday. We really hope to welcome you back again in the future.
