Unfortunately, as you stated, you had issues with the hot water and heating during the last day or so of your break. As within our own homes, sometimes things do go wrong. In this case, it seems that the gauge on the oil tank, which provides fuel for the cottage, had developed a fault. It was showing the oil tank as three quarters full and yet it was empty. You yourself commented, when we were first made aware of heating issues, that it was not due to a lack of oil. Once made aware of the heating situation we booked a heating engineer to attend and come out to test the tank. On realising that it was indeed empty, we organised an emergency delivery of oil, which arrived on the same day albeit later in the evening. Although not the usual, regular method, the cottage does have a backup system for heating water, provided by the immersion heater in the airing cupboard. This was available to you so that you had some hot water. Unfortunately, with five adults staying and all trying to have showers at the start of the day, this was not fully effective, as the immersion system heats water much more slowly. As a result, I organised for you to have the use of a neighbour’s vacant holiday home and had it cleaned etc. so that you had access to a good hot water supply and warm showers for the full five adults. At just a couple of doors away, I understand that this wasn’t ideal, but hope that this wasn’t too inconvenient and was sufficient for your last day away. In addition, as you mentioned, you were also given some financial recompense for your inconvenience. I understand that you had difficulty getting hold of me as an Owner. Unfortunately, I was out of my house and you had only been given my landline number by the cottage agency. In future, I have asked them to give my mobile number so that guests can always easily contact me. In addition, please will future guests note that there is also a local seven day a week, cleaning, maintenance and general troubleshooting service provided at Pink Cottage. If there are any issues at all, guests are encouraged to use this number located next to the visitor’s book in the living room, as this will provide a very swift response to try to rectify any issues.
