This charming log cabin is situated in the village of Strathyre with fishing, walking and cycling all within easy reach.

This delightful, detached, self catering, traditional log cabin is situated on the small picturesque Balviag Estate, in the Victorian village of Strathyre. Set in natural park land with mature Scots pines, and at the foot of Ben Sheann with plenty of grassland for children to play on and explore. There is a charcoal barbecue available (no fuel provided) to dine alfresco on those summer evenings. The River Balvaig flows at your back door and free fishing is available for a maximum of 2 rods. Just a short walk to the village with a playground, village shop and pub serving food. There are endless miles of forest roads and trails to explore, both for walking and cycling, from a gentle stroll on the shores of Loch Lubnaig to a vigorous hike to the summit of Ben Ledi or a relaxing boat trip on Loch Katrine. The tree-clad slopes around the village which sweep down to the shores of Loch Lubnaig change from spring greens to autumn russets and golds making the surroundings spectacularly beautiful all year. The area is also rich in Scottish history with many stories relating to Rob Roy Macgregor, whose grave can be found in the kirkyard at Baquhidder. Within easy driving distance are Loch Lomond, Gleneagles is approximately 50 minutes away and Stirling is approximately an hour away. Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth approximately 1½ hours away. Very warm welcome from the owners. A truly idyllic week. Lovely cottage with every possible need catered for. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, a river running alongside the back garden, couple of beautiful horses trotting over to bid me Good Morning. Many beautiful walks, no Wi-Fi. Perfect for a peaceful and tranquil week. Lovely part of the world and I can't praise it highly enough. I would recommend to anyone who may yearn for a break from the fast-paced rat race. Certainly, it recharged my batteries and, for sure, I will return.

We loved staying in Pine Cottage- it was cosy, welcoming and very comfortable. Our hosts were on hand to greet us, and had made sure that the cottage was warm when we arrived straight from our flight from Australia despite it being right after the ‘Beast from the East’. There was everything we needed to make our stay comfortable, the cottage was well supplied and very importantly, the bed was comfortable and warm. The location was beautiful- looking out of the window was like a painting, and there were some lovely walks to take right from the front door. We are happy to recommend Pine Cottage to anyone visiting this lovely part of Scotland, close to many attractions such as Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, LochTay (an amazing drive) and not far from Doune Castle, Luss, and Edinburgh.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It is lovely that you all felt warm and welcome on your arrival at Pine Cottage. To leave the heat of Australia and exchange it for the Beast from the East in Scotland must have been such a challenge. We are delighted you had such a great week, and hope you will tell all your friends. Thank you for your kind comments.

Once again, we spent another lovely Christmas at Pine Cottage. Special thanks to Bev & Fiona who always go the extra mile to ensure that our stay is comfortable and that every need is catered for. This is a lovely cosy cabin in beautiful surroundings with no wifi and patchy mobile reception, which suits us perfectly, however we did notice that we had no problem with Vodafone network and were able to make and receive calls in the cabin with ease. Every little detail has been catered for from rolling pins to sewing kit, hot water bottles, torches, walking sticks etc, and it truly is a home from home. We had lovely seasonal weather, cold frosty days and we even had a white Christmas with snow falling on the big day itself so it felt quite magical. As always our only complaint is that the week went far too quickly!!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It is always such a pleasure to welcome you all to Pine Cottage at Christmas and to know that you enjoy the cottage, the countryside, the locals and the weather. What a bonus, a white Christmas.. and before you know it, it will be next Christmas again. Thank you for your lovely review, it is much appreciated.

This is a beautiful cottage with every little detail thought about by the owners. We were made to feel very welcome. Its a very spacious cottage and the dog and kids loved the freedom of the space outside and hubby loved fishing the river! There is no phone signal or Internet, but this made our holiday all the more tranquil. We took our bikes and would highly recommend taking/hiring bikes as there are some amazing cycle paths from the cottage. Walking is also excellent with several paths direct from cottage. We saw red squirrels and even a golden eagle and loved watching the array of birds visit the cottage feeders all day long! The cottage is centrally located to visit Glencoe and Northern areas, Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Loch Latrine, Lochearnhead, Killin amd many more. We had THE most fantastic holiday here, despite Scottish weather, and will certainly be returning in the future!

We are definitely coming back! Lovely cottage with beautiful surroundings, lots to explore and countless trails to walk. Even our dog was exhausted and she's a husky! Cottage itself very clean and very well equipped. Fiona and Bev greeted us with bread, milk and lovely homemade raspberry jam(all gone within a few days). Very helpful and made you feel at home. Couldn't ask for a better holiday especially that the weather was very kind to us. Thank you!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- We are delighted that you had such good weather, as you know in Scotland it could be summer one day and winter the next.. it sounds like you all had a great time, and you're right, there's so much to do, especially if you love being outside. Glad the wee husky had fun too. And thanks for posting the reevoo.

Beautiful location and lovely cottage. Loved watching the wildlife right outside the window.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Delighted that you enjoyed your break and that you saw so much local wildlife - as you say - from the windows. We saw a red squirrel on Saturday at the bird feeder at the side of the river, a really beautiful sight.
