Description

Tour the owner’s cider farm across the road, or visit Cheddar Gorge which is just a short drive away from this eco-friendly cottage.

This superb semi-detached holiday cottage is situated a few miles from Glastonbury in the small hamlet of Pilltown. It makes a great base from which to explore this beautiful mystical part of the country. The cottage is very eco-friendly, with solar panels and eco-friendly cleaning products. The owner’s fields that the cottage backs on to are all organic natural pastures, with no fertilisers or chemicals used on them, which encourages a habitat for an array of wildlife. The cottage is set within 70 acres, and you are free to roam through these fields and enjoy the surrounding area. The owner also owns a cider farm and museum across the road, and he is happy to take you on a tour to see how cider was originally made. Glastonbury, with its famous abbey and tor, is just a few miles away, and Wells Cathedral with its Bishops Palace, Wookey Hole, Cheddar Caves and Gorge are all a short drive. If you fancy a little shopping, check out Clarks Village, the designer outlet in Street. Also within an hour’s drive you can reach the World Heritage city of Bath with its array of fine restaurants and, of course, the famous Thermae Bath Spa and Grand Pump Rooms, and Bath Abbey. A very enjoyable place to stay. The owner is passionate about the heritage of his orchards and a very interesting person to talk to. Everything has been thought of and it was very easy for our dog as she was allowed to run in the pesticide free orchard just outside the back door. Although we did not have small children we could see that they had been catered for as well.

This cottage is a real gem, just down the road from Glastonbury, with the Tor in view from the back garden. Although it is on a main road, we found that the traffic did not detract from our enjoyment, and the use of the orchard to wander in was welcome. This is a cottage I would return to and certainly would recommend it as an ideal base to explore Somerset from.

Lovely stay. Mr chant was very nice and friendly. Excellent enclosed garden for our puppies, could just do with a bit of a tidy up. The wood burner is to die for. Although you have to provide the wood yourself. Needs new sofa and chairs. Bit uncomfortable to relax in. Also quite noisy from road traffic.

It's a lovely cottage, thoughtfully equipped. One thing I would do next time - take slippers!

The cottage is in a great location for exploring and has plenty of space for 4 people (2 adults & 2 children). It caters well for families with small children especially as the stairs have stairgates fitted and there is a highchair, baby carrier and even a Moses basket! However; the cleanliness of the cottage especially the fridge needs some work. We were assured the cottage would be clean and ready for us on arrival. We had to clean the kitchen, fridge (which looked like it had never been cleaned) and the washing machine before using. The freezer drawer was broken and had jagged pieces of plastic and some of the mugs were damaged, one so badly it leaked and couldn't be used. The bedding also looked like it hadn't been changed after the previous people had left. The equipment in the cottage is quite basic and more glasses, cups, cutlery would make things easier. Lots of towels, washing up liquid, hand soap and toilet roll were provided which was great. The furniture downstairs i.e. the sofas could do with updating as not very comfortable and quite dusty. Upstairs was lovely and the beds were really comfortable and it looked modern and new, although also needed a good dust and clean. Apart from that we had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the location and Somerset very much. Thank you.

Me and my partner stayed here for a week in December and absolutely loved it, it was just the break we needed. The cottage had everything you could possibly need, we do not have children, but it was nice to see toys and activity books. Also good if you have dogs as well as water bowls were provided. Fireplace was lovely and extra blankets made the cottage very cosy. We got a very generous free sample of Cider from Mr Chant, and he also popped round with extra bits including mistletoe. There is a Morrison's and a couple of pub/restaurants nearby, however we found one of them got booked up very easily, but that could of been the time of year... the cottage can be quite hard to find and we had an issue one night of walking to the pub as the road isn't very well lit, however we very much enjoyed our stay and it was nice to have a tour of Mr Chant's cider farm to see what incredible work he puts into his products, he also deserves extra credit for the work he puts into wildlife conservation. All in all a very good stay and we would love to go back.
