Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

A Grade II listed character cottage for two, tucked in the heart of the fishing village of Staithes.

At the bottom of the steep cobbled bank in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Staithes is this Grade II listed terraced character cottage. Step back in time as you wander the ginnels and alleyways where traditional cottages cling to the cliff edge. Staithes nestles deep in the valley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and is an ideal holiday base from which to explore both the Moors and the East Yorkshire Coast. The Victorian seaside town of Saltburn to the north is just 8 miles with Whitby 12 miles to the south. Cliff top walks and access to the Cleveland Way afford breathtaking views across the coastline. Shop and restaurant 150 yards, beach and pub 50 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen with tiled floor. Beams throughout. First floor: 1 double bedroom with beams. Bathroom with toilet.

Electric woodburner in living room included. Economy 7 central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV (limited signal). DVD. Electric cooker. Public car park (permit provided).

If dogs are not allowed upstairs then this should be mentioned before booking, not on arrival. The pans could do with an upgrade. There was no space in the cupboards for groceries because of too many utensils etc. The two pubs were very good and also the butchers. We had a nice time and it was a good base for touring other coastal resorts. Many thanks

We enjoyed our visit but were disappointed not to be able to sit outside as we saw other cottage residents doing. Ours was in an alleyway

A quaint and quirky cottage that was just what we were looking for. It was warm and welcoming and had every thing we needed.

A lovely vintage cottage- snug/cosy just great for a romantic weekend break. Allows dogs too. Everything had been thought about and supplied, even down to a pint of milk and biscuits on arrival. A couple of negatives that no doubt will be addressed, the bedroom window rattled in the night and kept us awake (high winds)but we shoved a beer mat in it, to stop it. Could have done with a shower or at least a bracket to hold the intergrated bath/shower head one above your head. Plus provide a working torch to operate the heating system (it was very dark in the porch area). But all in all we would return to such a cosy/quaint cottage. It was very close to the pub and beach so ideal location. Staithes itself is beautiful not comercialised like whitby, but not many parking spots actually near the beach, so you have to park right at the top about half a mile away.

The standard of cleanliness left a lot to be desired in my opinion; the bath needs an over haul, the shower handle broke off in our hands on first use. It needs to be explained that there is no back door; I found it quite claustrophobic, luckily the weather was dry as there is nowhere to leave dripping wet weather gear. 'Cosy' would be inappropriate as there was no light working on the electric fire hardly leading to a cosy atmosphere. For some mysterious reason all of the relevant information as to local amenities, places to visit, local walks ,how equipment worked etc. was found on our last day hidden in an upstairs room drawer when normally it is in an obvious place e.g.ON THE TABLE . We did not know how to open the windows until we were leaving , a problem in the Summer.Luckily, we know the area so it was not too much of a problem for us but for anyone new , they wouldn't have had a clue! There needs to be an extractor fan in the kitchen due to the close proximity to the sitting room.
