Pike Cottage is a former road toll house at Acton Turville, and now offers delightful holiday accommodation. The principal structure is thought to have been built for the Turnpike Trust in the 19th century, in the form of a lodge house with an angular frontage and village clock. A well preserved Grade II listed property and adjacent to the owners’ home, it has many original features and boasts a central village location. The double bedroom even has the original, working Toll House clock (which can be silenced). Acton Turville has a popular public house and is just 1 mile from Badminton, home to the annual horse trials.
Acton Turville’s proximity to Bath, a 20-minutes drive, and Bristol, 25 minutes, makes it an ideal base for exploring both cities. Bath is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts Roman baths, a medieval abbey, a wealth of Georgian architecture and wonderful shops, whilst the historic maritime port of Bristol offers many visitor attractions. The Severn Bridge is 20 minutes by car and gives access to south Wales.
The beautiful villages of the Cotswolds are within easy reach, as are some famous Wiltshire sites, such as prehistoric Stonehenge and the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. The area offers plenty of National Trust and English Heritage properties, such as Bowood and Longleat. Nearer to home are the quintessentially English villages of Lacock and Castle Coombe, and the lovely Dyrham Park and Westonbirt Arboretum. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Pike Cottage is an ideal location for visiting all the area has to offer, Malmesbury, Westonbirt, Slimbridge, and many others. The cottage has a very small kitchen and small bathroom - which is in need of refurbishment. The sitting room is fine for two with a nice open fire. Steep stairs lead to a larger bedroom with open-beamed ceiling, definitely the best room of the cottage. Located on a crossroad, morning and evening traffic can be quite noisy - but we expected that, and crossing to the car-park or the pub needs extra care. The local shop has a few essentials should you be eating at home, though larger supermarkets are not too far away. Overall a nice place to stay, just be aware of it's size, low doorways, steep stairs, and traffic noise.

we had a lovely short stay in Pike cottage in october. Our hosts were very welcoming and offered us the use of their lovely garden to sit in if we wished. There was wine and chocolate for us on arrival, and some toiletries in the bathroom. The cottage is very cute and quaint with lots of history attached to it. Bed was lovely and comfortable , kitchen is small but fairly well equipped but we didnt intend on doing any cooking ! Huge bonus points are the village shop and the Pub which are literally right across the road . Only slight negatives were the traffic goes right past the door so you do notice that a bit and we did light the log fire but it smoked a bit through the cottage. Other than that it was lovely and a fab base for exploring the area!

Ideally located for exploring the area and also in easy reach of Bristol and Bath. Local pub just across the road doing excellent food and local shop just a few steps away. The cottage takes a bit of getting used to as the steps to first floor are very steep and the kitchen extremely cramped but one soon adjusts. It is certainly quaint ! Lovely garden.

What an interesting and unusual place to stay! We had a great week in the Cotswolds walking, cycling and visiting places of historic interest like Lacock House, the home of Fox Talbot the photographer. Our hosts next door couldn't have been more helpful. We would definitely go back. Strongly recommended.

The cottage is a very cosy place. The garden is absolutely inviting and wonderful. All necessary things are provided. Every bit of space is already well used. The kitchen is small and guests should well know that cooking is not really possible due to space. For self-caterers this may be a disadvantage. It is very quick and easy to explore the Cotswolds and nearby towns and countryhomes.
