The cottage was compact but comfortable and a beautiful location on the river. We had easy access to Padstow but found the local pubs in the village of Little Petherwick a little pricy for a family. Good location for beaches.

Penpoll - stayed 20/4/18-27/4/18 My wife and I arrived at the premises after a 7 hour drive. We tried to follow the instructions for the location but initially went to the wrong address. I then had to drive a short distance to get a phone signal and rang the housekeeper to clarify the address, but got a voicemail (this was the 2nd time I had rang the housekeeper and got voicemail both times). The housekeeper did recall quickly both times, but after a 7 hour drive we just wanted to get into the address and being greeted by a voicemail message was initially disheartening. I therefore rang the owner, who clarified the directions to the cottage, which was a little further down the lane. The owner did state they had encountered this issue before with other visitors, which led me to wonder if the directions could be clarified. Once my wife and I got into the cottage, we were impressed by the location and the general level of facilities available inside. In terms of location, the cottage very peacefully nestles on the banks of Little Petherick creek and is within a few miles of several towns including Padstow and Wadebridge. In terms of facilities, our only issue was that the fridge does not have a freezer compartment. For the local amenities, there are a few places to eat nearby. The Old Mill House is at the bottom of the lane, but because of the narrow nature of the surrounding roads, this is the only place you could get to on foot. There is a track which follows the River Camel into Padstow, which at approximately 3 miles is within walking distance. There is also an hourly bus service (11a) which stops at the bottom of the road and takes you into Padstow in about 15 minutes. The bus does stop running at about 7pm however. Cleanliness at the cottage was okay. The extractor in the ground floor bathroom was full of dust and there are several cracked floor tiles in that room. The 2 times we used the oven and hob to prepare a meal, we were left with a lingering smell of grease for some time afterwards. The silicone seal between the 2 work surfaces in the kitchen has all but disappeared and the resultant gap was full of crumbs. The satellite dish outside is rusty and is a bit of an eyesore and the balcony area for the upstairs bedroom needs smartening up. Finally in terms of value for money, we feel we paid a fair price. The cottage in general is a little bit tired. Externally everything needs a lick of paint and internally it needs more attention to detail when being cleaned. We genuinely loved our stay in Little Petherick and we are planning to return to the area in the future, just not to Penpoll.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for the feedback. With regard to the directions, please accept our apologies for not being able to find the house easily after a long drive. Part of the beauty of the cottage is that it is off the beaten track and in a fairly unexpected location. As you found with phone reception, it is a little intermittent at many places in that area, but I am glad that we made contact and you were able to arrive at the cottage. We have, since your stay, had the cottage repainted outside, and the downstairs of the cottage has also been repainted. The upstairs is due for a repaint at the end of the season - we just ran out of time between visitors. We also have a freezer on its way, it has been difficult to locate the correct size to replace the existing fully fitted fridge, so have purchased a small additional freezer for this summer so that guests can have ice creams etc. This should be delivered to the house within the next four weeks. We always appreciated feedback to enable us to make sure all our guests have a great stay - thank you.

Very comfortable accommodation in a good position for exploring the north Cornwall coast. It was nicely furnished and warm, even if the weather outside wasn't. Would recommend for a couple who wanted a quiet break, with nice walks from the doorstep.

The accommodation was tired and uncomfortable. There was very little space in the living accommodation. The accommodation seating definitely needs upgrading.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay as much as other guests have. We hope that the photos online give an accurate representation of the cottage, and the facilities that we offer. We also try to act on the guests comments. The cottage is our second home and we spend quite some time there ourselves, so being comfy and cosy is very important to us.
