Description

This 18th-century cottage is on the edge of the Peak District and has use of a heated swimming pool.

Pat’s Cottage is an attractive, 18th-century, semi-detached stone cottage, adjacent to the owners home, located in Dore, a desirable village placed just five minutes from the stunning countryside of the Peak District National Park, and 20 minutes from the city of Sheffield. The property itself has been sympathetically renovated retaining character and many original features, such as black beams to most rooms and low doors and ceilings. Throughout the summer months, the property is offered with the use of the owner’s outdoor heated swimming pool, perfectly placed in a sunny, mainly private location surrounded by a pleasant garden and lawns. Pat’s Cottage offers fine walking direct from the door, and is within easy reach of popular Peak District towns and villages, such as Hathersage, Hope, Castleton, Baslow and Bakewell. Ladybower Reservoir and the magnificent historic buildings of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall can also be reached in under 30 minutes. Dore village itself is just a 5-minute walk, and steeped in history being the location of a battle fought for England’s Crown. There are two excellent public houses serving traditional meals, and two first class restaurants for that special occasion. There are also good local shops, including a small supermarket, delicatessen, butchers, bank with multi cash point, hairdressers and of course a fish and chip shop. In addition, Sheffield has all the shopping and entertainment a good city offers, and for those wanting to leave the car at home is a direct 10-minute train journey from Dore station, which is located just 1½ miles from the door. Shop, pub and restaurant 350 yards.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen. Steep, narrow stairs to first floor: 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet. Steep, open-sided, narrow stairs to second floor: 1 twin bedroom. Most rooms with beams.

This is a gorgeous cottage located ideally close to the city and the National Park. It is teeny - but is well appointed. The owners are just next door and are friendly and helpful. Parking is on the road right outside the gate and as this is on a quiet village road it wasn't a problem. The local pub was ok but service was really slow, especially in the evening. There is a local grocers, a chemist and a chippy all really close by. It is only about 12 minutes drive into Sheffield. We found a lovely walk from the doorstep around local woodland and also drove out into the National Park. The cottage has a small porch to leave wet boots in temporarily but this isn't entirely dry so we never left anything in there overnight. Overall - a lovely little place to stay in a great location.
