This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

With its own private hot tub, this two-storey, unusual lodge is perfect for exploring the whole of this friendly and unspoilt county.

These four lodges, each with a hot tub on the decking, offer differently styled accommodation for groups of six or eight. Ideal for holidays or visiting the two large wedding venues nearby in Otterburn. Leafy Run (ref W44043) is a contemporary style lodge with a hot tub, and has a peaceful decked area. Decorated to a very good standard, and slightly smaller than its sister lodge, Squirrel Lodge (ref W44044) is the first lodge on the edge of this small exclusive park. Set over two levels, this quirky and unusual lodge is a lovely retreat for relaxing in, whether you are indulging in the private hot tub or sitting on either of the two verandahs. Leafy Retreat (ref UKC2663) has high spec granite worktops in the kitchen, built-in bedroom furniture and lovely bathrooms. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) has been completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some down time after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A perfect base for couples or families to explore the Northumberland National Park, Kielder Forest and observatory, and the Scottish Borders. Situated 16 miles from the border counties, outdoor enthusiasts will love this location which is a favourite with walkers and adventure seekers. Bellingham is close by and has a choice of tea rooms, pubs and village shops. A day trip to Alnwick, with its famous castle, and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, which is peppered with castles and beaches, make for fine days out. Hadrians Wall is only a few miles away and is steeped in history, with Roman forts and museums along the way. Hexham and Rothbury are easily accessible, and have plenty of pubs and shops. Beach 35 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ¾ mile and restaurant on-site.

After some sketchy instructions we got the correct lodge. It was clean, well equipped and just what we wanted.

Very comfortable stay at Squirrel Cottage, nice and warm. Hot tub cleaned each morning. Suspected supernatural experience of hearing army marching at 3am, googled Battle of Otterburn, we were right on the site of the battle. Cottage was pretty private most of the time apart from being on main through way used by neighbouring site guests, didn't bother us.

Would love to visit this place again, hoping i can get an offer next time as between 5 it was a little pricey, made my 30th very special except the hot tub was so very noisy all the way through our holiday and loss of electricity alot on 1st night

Lodge was very nice, comfortable and hot tub was top quality. Located in great location. As a family of four it suited us well as there was enough space in lodge. There were a few negatives which included no outside lights (not great for getting in/out of hot tub) and cooker hard to use. But overall good value for money.

Good setting, perfect gateaway for a family base, nice layout although a bit tight upstairs. Poor shower pressure. Nice relaxing base

Nice holiday but a big disappointment that on contacting owner about no outside light nothing was done.No call back as promised.

This lodge sleeps 6, unfortunately there were only 2 wine glasses and no plastic glasses for hot tub use. No oven gloves. No chopping board. Blind in sitting room and front bedroom was broken. The markings on the cooker dials were worn off and illegible. Carpets in the downstairs bedrooms were worn. 1 bathroom is not enough for 6 people.

A lovely lodge in a wonderful location and an ideal base to explore the best of Northumberland. The grounds are fantastic to wander around and find hidden treasures. The hot tub is welcome to relieve aching legs after a day out.

This is a wonderful lodge with a fantastic hot tub, which was the main reason for choosing this accommodation. The lodge was clean on arrival,so clean infact that the numbers have been rubbed off the oven so unless you have this model yourself you will not have any idea how to use the oven, and the Thornton's box of chocolates to greet us was a lovely touch. There is a brilliant village shop which is both well stocked & very reasonably priced for all those bits you forgot to take or run out of. My reason for not giving this lodge full marks relates to the site itself. On booking I feel it implies that you are booking a lodge which is one of only 4, on the edge of a forest. On arrival we found that it is infact a site which has lots of other lodges, some of which are only half built. Squirrel lodge is the first lodge as you enter so your view at the back of the lodge is the local Coach House carpark and the front where the hot tub is, is on full view of everyone, no privacy whatsoever, and unfinished lodges to look at. The entrance to the site is also rather scruffy, lots of debris and rubble from unfinished building work, which again is another view you have as you sit in your hot tub. I feel that this issue needs to be addressed with some much needed landscaping, and some kind of screening around this particular lodge so your not looking at the hotel car park. I had booked this as a quiet and relaxing break in idyllic surroundings with privacy for my mum's 70th birthday, but feel that this was not the case and the advertising is a little misleading. Its such a shame as Squirrel lodge is lovely.

It was a quirky little lodge, alot smaller than it looks in pics, therefore it was very snug. The lodge is basic, but equipped very well with all your needs for cooking etc. It provided tea towels, washing up liquid, tea, coffee, sugar, dish washer tablets etc. Lots of crockery and glasses etc. Cleanliness wise it could have been better, we dropped a little food on floor so used some towel to wipe and the floor was filthy as though it had not been cleaned before we went in and there was dirt round edge of shower. Beds were comfortable and clean, back bedroom upstairs was very very cramped, hard to get round bottom of bed due to lack of space and the pitched roof did not help, they did make most of space to accommodate for storage, draws etc. Really could do with some fans in summer time as it was stifling hot upstairs, and we could not open windows due to mosquitoes, we were all bitten badly so please take some spray. Hot tub was great, cleaned every morning and the guy that came to do it was helpful and friendly. Overall a canny stay, but would not stay again in that particular one, would look to maybe rent one of the larger lodges. Oh and please please clean outside the lodge as the decking was is desperate need of a clean and maintenance. Little box of chocolates were a nice gesture too.

What a beautiful location. Had a great cycling weekend with friends up here. The hot tub was cleaned everyday and was a welcome place to relax in the evenings. Shame there wasn't any wifi or cafetiere. Apart from that we loved the accommodation. Quirky shape and great outside space.

As guests at Woodhill Hall we needed a place to stay that was easily accessible to the venue, comfortable and a great place to enjoy the weekend away with friends, it was absolutely perfect for that. Due to the pointed roof it is on the small side upstairs, but that is to be expected, for us just needing a place to stay it was perfect but a family of 6 may benefit from booking a larger lodge. I also hired the Leafy Run as there was a large group of us and that is a lot more spacious and modern, however, we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend from start to finish and are definitely looking to return! No complaints from any of our group, except I couldn’t work out how to turn on the outdoor lights... didn’t even think to ring the contact number provided! Would definitely ring to find out if we returned. Apart from that it was fab.
