Description

Escape to the peace and quiet of the countryside, surrounded by wild flowers and with visiting wildlife, this really is a nature lovers dream!

Perched high above Loch Dunvegan and the ruins of a Pictish Broch lies Eagle Farmhouse. Built for Donald ’Osdale’ by the chief Macleod on his return from the South African railways during the Boer war in the 1870s. Donald looked after a huge flock of black faced sheep for the clan which grazed on the mountain, sadly no longer, but their place has been taken by a myriad of wild flowers amongst which are the carnivorous sundew and butterwort. Amongst other plants which abound are bog asphodel, orchids, bog bean and cotton grass to name a few. The property is a traditional stone cottage, built to resist the prevailing winter winds coming from the majestic Macleod’s Table and it even has the original mason‘s mark responsible for the build on the lintel above the front door. Sadly Donald passed away and the detached cottage remained derelict for the next 50 years populated only by sheep until the present owners sympathetically rebuilt it in 2006, and it now enjoys a modern standard which oozes charm, whilst retaining the original character.
Many birds and animals can be spotted, and the rarer ones include golden and white tailed eagles, dippers, hen harriers, peregrine falcons, curlew, snipe, wheatear and skylark, this really is an ornithologist’s paradise! If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of red deer, otters, stoats and foxes. With both coastal and mountain views, Eagle Farmhouse nestles at the base of Macleod’s Table and makes the perfect base for exploring this lovely island. Amongst the many attractions are historic sites, castles, standing stones and Talisker Distillery to name just a few. Mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, hill walking and climbing, sea trips and pony trekking are just a few of the many activities available. For the less energetic, sit back, relax and unwind and just be amazed with the dramatic scenery and seascapes. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
Eagle Farmhouse can be booked together with Hen Harrier View (UK5851) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Kitchen area: With electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

First Floor:
Bedroom 1: With double bed and wooden floor.
Bedroom 2: With twin beds and wooden floor.

Partial electric underfloor central heating (ground floor), electric heaters (first floor), gas, electricity, bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and logs for wood burner included. Travel cot, highchair and stairgate available on request. Large natural garden with sitting-out area, garden furniture and BBQ. Bike store. Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: The property has a natural water supply from a spring.
