This attractive holiday bungalow is ideally located in a quiet country lane surrounded by countryside, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a cycle track and walking path, which runs along the old Cheddar Strawberry Line, from the property take the footpath up to the Mendip Hills and is suitable for pedestrians and wheelchairs. Only 4 miles from Cheddar, home to the famous Cheddar Caves and Gorge. Close by are the attractions of Wookey Hole Caves, the city of Wells, and Weston-super-Mare. Easily accessible are Bath with its Roman Baths, Glastonbury with the Abbey grounds and Tor. Horse riding available nearby. There are a number of golf courses in the area, the closest is 5 miles away. Shops and pubs 1/2 mile.

    We moved our stay at orchard well and will be returning again in the future our only comments would be to update the decor and provide more pillows not flat pancake ones Location was perfect and a lovely friendly area, local pub was amazing food too!

    Response on behalf of the Owner; We must apologise for the decor in the downstairs bedroom. We had a family stay this summer whose children unfortunately thought it would be fun to rip the wallpaper off the walls! We did get our local handyman to go in to patch and repair it for the time being. But as we are fully booked all summer, we have not had a window of opportunity to redecorate a whole room. We will of course be straight in to decorate when the holiday season is over. We always spend several months in the winter revamping the house as after an army of visitors it is always in need of a bit of TLC. Regarding pillows, we find that everyone has their own personal taste as to what sort or pillows they like to use, which is why we provide quite a lot of spare ones in all sorts of shapes and sizes. If someone has swapped pillows over, there should be plenty to choose from in the bedroom cupboards or in the cupboard on the landing with spare bedding in. In the winter months, every item of bedding is checked over and replaced where necessary.

    A short walk from the house to the local amenities for those essential items, the village offers a range of shops and eating places. However, the house is located in a noisy position with cyclists, ramblers, dog walkers and runners constantly passing by from early morning til late at night along the old strawberry line. The cricket players were the quietest amongst the community centre users, as unfortunately you are opposite the football fields and parties with loud music playing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. So not the best of relaxing holidays! On a positive note the view from the main bedroom towards the Mendips is lovely. The house was spacious but sadly needs updating, the hall carpet is covered in bleach stains and the back downstairs bedroom has a large stain in the doorway, it makes a poor first impression. There are some minor cleaning issues with cobwebs in the house, we removed several ourselves. The biggest issue was the drop in water pressure and cold showers, there are notices saying don't use any other water appliances when taking a shower but this did not help the situation especially in the mornings.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Orchard Well is situated in a quiet country lane with views towards the Mendip Hills. Behind the property there is the Strawberry Line walk and beyond that, Winscombe Cricket Pitch. The Strawberry Line footpath is situated some distance from the back hedge quite a bit lower than the property and is sandwiched between embankments on either side, as it used to be a railway line from Cheddar, hence its name. We were surprised that you complained about noise because in the thirteen years we have rented out the property nobody has complained about noise. The Strawberry Line is a beautiful walk in the countryside that takes you towards the Mendip Hills and Cheddar. Very occasionally there is a special event at the Cricket Club, this usually occurs on a Saturday evening, again we have never had complaints about this, and over the years we have had hundreds of guests enjoy their holidays at Orchard Well. Every year we return to Orchard Well for a number of months in the winter. The property undergoes an in depth clean. All carpets are cleaned with an industrial cleaner and any carpets that need replacing are replaced. As well as this, all equipment is tested and replaced as necessary. In fact over the years all the white goods in the kitchen have been replaced, some twice. The televisions in the lounge and downstairs bedroom have recently been replaced with new. We have not had complaints about water pressure before; perhaps the Water Board were carrying out some work whilst you were there.
