The village of Bonchurch lies just to the east of Ventnor and is renowned for its literary connections. Writers and poets such as Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburn all resided here for a time. Dickens remarked the village was ’the prettiest place I ever saw in my life, at home or abroad.’
The Victorian seaside town of Ventnor is situated on the southern side of the Isle of Wight, right in the heart of the famed Undercliff, much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors will find a great variety of established local shops, restaurants and public houses serving locally caught fresh fish and locally brewed ales. Sheltered from the north by the National Trust owned St Boniface Downs, the area benefits from its own micro-climate, which provides an ideal haven for a variety of flora and fauna.
Explore the rock pools, great local walks and easy access to the many attractions the Isle of Wight has to offer. Outdoor pursuits on the island are well catered for and include horse riding, fishing, cycling, paragliding, water sports and golf. There are numerous attractions across the island to discover for all ages, including The Needles, with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. Pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes. Beach 350 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

    The cottage is beautifully decorated throughout, with plenty of furniture, crockery etc so is able to take a larger party. The open plan layout on the ground floor is a great space and the smaller lounge area (still open plan) has it's own television. The double bedrooms are a good size and all have their own en suite (though the shower cubicles are very small, and the showers themselves are not great, and hot water can be an issue). The single bedroom does have fit a full sized single bed, but has limited storage. The patio area is a suntrap, and would benefit from a bbq. The main issue is access and parking. We were told that there are steps up to the property and these are steeper than we thought they would be. Also though it does saying parking for two cars, the entrance to the cottage is off a narrow road, between two stone walls, making parking difficult. We did park two cars, but if the other cottage had been let out, it would have been very difficult to move. There is parking on the road, but this is chargeable between May and September. This house also does not have WIFI, which for some the party was an advantage for others a disadvantage.
