Description

The location of this cottage is ideal to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and the coast, covered with paths to discover.

Dating back more than 150 years, these former farm buildings are set on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park surrounded by views towards the Cleveland Hills. Oozing charm and character, each cottage has its own secluded garden and are peacefully located on the edge of the Georgian market town of Stokesley, hosting the weekly market with the cobbled streets lined with an eclectic mix of shops. There are plenty of inns and tea rooms from which to enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. Orchard Cottages is an ideal location from which to explore both the stunning North Yorkshire Moors and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, surrounded by superb walks and cycle tracks leading into the heart of the moors where some of the prettiest villages await discovery. There’s easy access to Herriot’s home town of Thirsk, and the pretty market town of Helmsley will never disappoint, and a little further is the ancient town of Pickering, home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and is well worth the journey through the Esk Valley into the well-known villages of Grosmont and Goathland. A 10-mile drive leads to the Victorian seaside town of Saltburn and this is the place to begin a journey through the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, discovering tiny fishing villages and rugged cliff top walks affording panoramic coastal views, Staithes, Runswick Bay, the ancient sea port of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. There are miles of sandy beaches perfect for family days out, museums, stately halls and homes - the area is steeped in history. Golf, horse riding and swimming pool available locally. Shop and pub 1 mile.

The Granary (IWB) and The Tractor Shed (IWD) can be booked together to accommodate up to 16 guests.

Large living/dining room with well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen. Beams and wooden floor throughout. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room with toilet. Two twin bedrooms. Bathroom with toilet.

Beautiful cottage on the outskirts of Stokesley. Equipped to a high standard. Having the owner on site was a bonus. What a friendly place and the garden had the added attraction of horses coming right up to the fence. We enjoyed our stay very much and definitely will return.

The Tractor Shed was well located. The large main room worked well. The purpose of our trip was to visit relatives as we were able to host 9 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs in an informal way. The property is not completely dog friendly as there are no washing facilities (outside tap) to clean dogs from beach trips and although the owner immediately made adjustments to the fence at the end of the courtyard garden unfortunately we couldn't leave our dogs (cocker spaniels) unattended there as they could still escape.

Lovely cottage with fantastic views. Reasonably equipped. Wi-fi advertised but never worked. Slightly dirty on arrival. Sofas and beds very uncomfortable. Glass door to ensuite meant lack of privacy. Very bumpy road leading to cottage.
