Description

Boasting its own secluded garden, this cottage enjoys fantastic views of the surrounding National Park and towards Cleveland Hills.

Dating back more than 150 years, this former farm building is set on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park surrounded by views towards the Cleveland Hills. Oozing charm and character, the cottage has its own secluded garden and is peacefully located on the edge of the Georgian market town of Stokesley, hosting the weekly market with the cobbled streets lined with an eclectic mix of shops. There are plenty of inns and tea rooms from which to enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine. The Granary is an ideal location from which to explore both the stunning North Yorkshire Moors and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, surrounded by superb walks and cycle tracks leading into the heart of the moors where some of the prettiest villages await discovery. There’s easy access to Herriot’s home town of Thirsk, and the pretty market town of Helmsley will never disappoint, and a little further is the ancient town of Pickering, home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway and is well worth the journey through the Esk Valley into the well-known villages of Grosmont and Goathland. A 10-mile drive leads to the Victorian seaside town of Saltburn and this is the place to begin a journey through the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, discovering tiny fishing villages and rugged cliff top walks affording panoramic coastal views, Staithes, Runswick Bay, the ancient sea port of Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. There are miles of sandy beaches perfect for family days out, museums, stately halls and homes - the area is steeped in history. Golf, horse riding and swimming pool available locally. We all enjoyed our stay at The Granary very much . Internally the property suited all our needs .It accommodated all 11 of us very well . Whilst we did not ask for a child stair gate , we could have done with one . Some of the fixtures were a little tire and worn. A shower head would not stay up in the shower room next to the kitchen .Several items of crockery were chipped .Property could have done with a tumble drier , particularly with young kids. Also outside the rear grassed area could have been better cared for , as a lawn/play area . Overall we enjoyed the peace and quiet , the location and area .Stokesley was a very pleasant town.

The accommodation was homely, but could do with a lick of paint in places. Lovely quiet location.

A lovely place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that the cottages offers. As a group of 7 adults and 1 dog we found everything we needed to make our xmas break special. The layout of the cottage was excellent, especially 2 ground floor bedrooms for the people with walking difficulties, and a lovely large kitchen with everything we needed including two ovens! The fully fenced secure garden area was brilliant for the dog who spent more time in there than the cottage. We all enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the summer for more personal T.L.C.

We spent 'Christmas' here (in early Dec) as a big group and loved it. The only thing missing was Christmas tree and decorations.
