Description

A former grainstore, this three-storey house is just 200 yards from the shore and has views across the bay.

In a stunning coastal location, Old Port Store is a charming and most distinctive detached home with its origins dating from circa 1820. The house is Category B listed by Historic Scotland and is situated about 200 yards from the shores of Luce Bay amidst beautiful rural surroundings. From the garden and the west side of the house there are wonderful views across the bay. The house was originally a grain store serving the long since gone harbour at Stairhaven, and has been converted into a distinctive three-storey holiday home, with the exterior having changed very little over the years. Ideal for families, couples or groups, the house is arranged over three floors with four en-suite bedrooms. A particularly attractive feature of this beautiful property is the impressive living room with a picture bay window to Luce Bay, and a large dining kitchen. This truly is a house of character where the traditional stone exterior marries with the well-proportioned interior. The Old Port Store is perfectly placed for easy access to many of the attractions that this corner of Wigtownshire offers, including Mull of Galloway, beautiful gardens typified by Logan Botanic Gardens and Castle Kennedy Gardens. The Galloway Forest offers exceptional walking and cycling and has been designated the first Dark Sky Park outside the USA. There are many beautiful coastal walks to be enjoyed, stone circles and ancient ruins and an RSPB reserve. There are other sporting opportunities such as trout and salmon fishing on the numerous local lochs. Sea angling is available from both the rocks along the coastline as well as by boat. Beach 200 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Spacious living room with picture window. Spacious kitchen/dining room with breakfast area. Utility. Separate toilet. First floor: Two bedrooms, each with TV and en-suite shower room with toilet; one double with 5ft bed, one twin. Second floor: Two double bedrooms, each with TV and en-suite bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet; one with 6ft zip & link bed (can be twin beds on request).
Maximum occupancy is 8 people and 1 infant.

Fantastic accommodation. Quiet location with great views over the beach. Plenty of room to give everyone their own space or come together for meals or games. Well stocked just like being at home - plates, cutlery, pots, glasses etc etc. DVDs and family games galore. Outside furniture and some beach stuff. Great break with walks, gardens, all around. We’ll be back.

A wonderful house, beautifully appointed. Very spacious - huge comfortable lounge, kitchen area and dining table. Four lovely, comfortable, en suite bedrooms. Large boot room/ utility room. Ample parking. Lots of storage, fridge/freezer space. Great window views. Fresh flowers and wine welcome. Owner is charming and helpful . Lovely location. Even when weather is poor, the house makes you comfortable and happy.

Excellent cottage with amenities that coped easily with a party of 8. We were made very welcome from the outset with complimentary bottle of wine and basket of local produce adding to the overall good first impression. Plenty of space and well appointed. We would definitely recommend this cottage and would certainly return ourselves for another delightful holiday.

The Old Port Store is a beautiful, comfortable, very well equipped house that was just perfect for our 3 generation family. The big plus was each room having its own bathroom/ shower/toilet. We loved the touches like the toys for the children to play with and the huge library of books, DVDs and games etc. Lots of indoor and outdoor space which meant that everyone could have their own space or get together when necessary. We loved the beach on the doorstep for fishing and the children beachcombing. The garden space outside also allowed for outdoor play for the children and sitting round a fire at night. We cycled and walked near by and also in the area around Stairhaven. There were lots of tourists attractions to keep everyone happy.
