What a beautiful house, a real delight! So comfortable and a real retreat where I could go every winter, with the cosy log fires. I spoke with the owner who is extremely friendly and helpful, he is able to control the central heating so can help if anyone gets stuck, however this was not an issue in our case, very warm and cosy. Also a gorgeous little hamper of goodies on arrival, what a bonus, thank you.

Once we became used to the quirkiness of the accommodation, we enjoyed our stay here. However, we didn’t like the grubbiness of the kitchen utensils, the oven and the fridge, and we weren’t happy to find the central heating programmer was broken, with a pile of broken pieces lying on the worktop. Miraculously, the heating still seems to be working, although we had no control over the timing of it. The boiler cover won’t stay on, with bare electrical connections beneath it, which should have been made safe and we should have been pre-warned about this! Annoyingly, there is only one window in the whole building, which opens, so we tended to leave the doors open a lot. The stairs are steep and the handrail is out of reach because of a badly positioned child gate which makes it impossible to reach. Look out for the biggest spiders you have ever seen, running around downstairs! We found the double bed quite comfortable, if a little bit small, and there is plenty of hot water available. This was only until we got up early on the last morning, to find there wasn't a drop of hot water, meaning we had to travel 300 miles home, unwashed! Add that to our annoyance at the owner turning up unannounced on our last afternoon there, wanting to take delivery of some building supplies. He spent about four hours in the driveway, pacing backwards and forwards while he and his companions waited for a truck to arrive, which spoiled the one day we had kept aside for enjoying the cottage grounds ourselves. Overall, we give it 6 out of 10.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry that there were a number of issues that affected your stay at the Mill. I am surprised that you did not let me know when I arrived on the Friday afternoon as I would have been able to deal with some of them, in particular your concern about the heating system. A new programmer was installed about 3 years ago, it was the first wifi type that allows me to connect to the heating system remotely, the programmer you refer to was the old one now disconnected. One of the fixings to boiler panel has become loose but this is now back in place. The heating control system is described in the visitor book some visitors adjust the heating and the hot water requirements so this may have been the reason for the boiler not responding to hot water demand . I have checked the windows and did find one of the kitchen windows sticking so this has been eased to make sure it opens. The purpose of my visit on the day before you departed was to get delivery of the new windows for the mill, I did knock on the door, introduce myself and I checked with you first to see if this was ok. Unfortunately the delivery truck was delayed but I did spend most of the time up in my neighbours house.

Great place to stay, close to lots of things to do, could do with a more comfortable settee. and chairs, the boiler controls were broken, and the cooker was not very clean. Beds were really comfortable best ones we have slept in. wild life in the field at the back of the property. Easy access to all local shops.
