Description

There are a wealth of attractions for all the family nearby, including Peppa Pig World, Highclere Castle and Winchester Cathedral.

This delightful, detached, single-storey home is adjacent to the owners’ field where you can see sheep and sometimes horses grazing. This immaculately presented converted dairy has been tastefully styled and comfortably furnished and is ideal for couples or families.
The Old Dairy is in a very convenient location for exploring the area. It is situated on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border and close to the market town of Andover where you will find shops, leisure facilities and many places of interest. Finkley Down Farm and the Museum of Iron Age are ideal for family days out and why not try one of the history trails such as Danebury Iron Age Hillfort. The city of Winchester is well worth a visit with its cathedral, King Arthur’s Round Table, the Science Centre and Planetarium. Approximately 23 miles away you will find Salisbury with its magnificent 13th-century Gothic cathedral, the Magna Carta and Europe’s oldest working clock.
Guests who enjoy exploring the countryside will find there are scenic walks from the door, including Savernake Forest, Collingbourne Woods and Devizes with canal barges and lovely walks. There are two golf courses near Andover, just 7 miles away, rich in history with Saxon links. Other popular places of interest include Stonehenge, Hawk Conservancy Trust, The Museum of Army Flying, Thruxton motor racing circuit, Longleat, Stourhead, Wilton House, Highclere Castle (home of Downton Abbey), Broadlands at Romsey, Southampton, Beaulieu Abbey and Motor Museum, Marwell Zoo and Paultons Park with Peppa Pig World. Mudeford, Christchurch and Bournemouth beaches are approximately 50-60 miles away and just over an hour by car. There is also a train to London Waterloo (70 minutes) or to Salisbury heading to the west country. There is a good farm shop about 2 miles away for fresh produce. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Another excellent stay at the Old Dairy. Very comfortable, well-equipped - and the underfloor heating kept it lovely and warm despite the snow outside.

Brilliantly equipped and furnished cottage. Even though we arrived to 3 inches of snow on the ground it was really toasty-warm throughout, thanks to the underfloor heating.

Me and my mum and 2 kids had a great stay here for a few days. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. A lovely welcome pack on arrival including fruit, bread, milk and coffee was a welcome surprise. The kitchen was very well equipped. Games and DVD's were also provided. The cottage was warm, cosy and modern. The view from the dining area is a field of sheep which could be lovely but there were a few broken down bits of farming machinery blocking the view which was a shame.....this was our only gripe!

We could not fault the accommodation of the Old Dairy the only downside was the given description on line about the surroundings. Having a brick wall part of a new property being built in close proximately to the Old Dairy windows blocking more light out by the day did not enhance our stay and completed blocked our expected view of the unspoilt countryside. The sheep and grazing horses also highlighted in the description were non existent and the working farm we were supposed to be staying on ceased to be 2 years ago. The owners of the property were very pleasant and apologetic regarding the noise from builders, scaffolding being erected and the movement of building materials first thing on a morning and throughout the day, also work vans and more building material blighting what view we did have from the dining room window. We suggested to the owners it would be to their advantage if they contacted the booking agent about the Old Dairy description as seen on line so no other holiday makers were disappointed. Had we known about the building site and lack of promised view we would have not have booked.

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you for your feed back. Your comments are important to us, and because of this we have agreed that the Agents will insert clearer online information for prospective guests, in addition to booking confirmations. It was unfortunate that whilst Barbara's family were with us scaffolding had to be erected, but we wanted the main work completed before winter set in. The panoramic view across open fields is from the dining room window and we try to keep the immediate area clear. We are currently reroofing the building and once this has been completed the scaffolding will come down thus letting more light back into the Old Dairy. The sheep are moved around the field adjacent to the cottages and more are to be seen in the spring with their lambs. Moving on from this field there are arable crops and open fields in the surrounding countryside. The internal renovation work will be ongoing until the new year, but this will be quieter as both properties have thick external walls, and whilst the Old Dairy is occupied we do endeavour to keep noise and movement levels down. By the spring we will have another holiday let to a similar standard for people to enjoy.
