Description

This spacious property is a great base for the whole family to get together and enjoy a relaxing holiday in beautiful Cheshire.

Dating back to the 1700’s and following a huge successful restoration and conversion project, Old Castle Mill now provides spacious accommodation. This detached house and annexe is set within immaculate grounds in a quiet setting, just outside of Malpas in south west Cheshire. Malpas, although an old market town, is actually classed as a large village, made up of half timbered ancient buildings, a Grade I listed church and Cholmondeley Castle. It boasts everything you could ever need from a small town, and it’s proximity to Chester, and the Shropshire and north Wales borders, makes it an excellent location for exploring several parts of the UK at once.
Visit the walled city of Chester, with its excellent shopping and nightlife, racecourse, the River Dee and the second most photographed clock in the UK next to Big Ben. Visit Llangollen in north Wales, with its horse drawn canal barges, steam railway, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which you can canoe over, and white water activities such as rafting, tubing and gorge walking, or slightly further afield is Snowdonia. Shropshire, one of England’s most attractive counties, has plenty of places to visit, including Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

3 generations enjoyed a 60th birthday celebrations and Christmas together. We were a bit concerned about cooking on the aga but it was so easy. We only had one small problem which was resolved quickly the next day. The mill is rural so wifi does not support multiple users. If we had known this in advance we would have taken cd's with Christmas music rather than relying on WiFi and taken some dvds. Thankfully it did not effect our overall enjoyment of our stay. Mobile phone signal is not available, a landline is available for emergencies. However I forgot to tell the owner that the telephone number in the house folder is incorrect if you wish to give anyone the landline number to call in.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments and a great score. Very pleased your party enjoyed Christmas at Oldcastle Mill.

A beautiful house in a lovely location. No phone signal and no internet once more than 3 people were connected but they were our only issues. The house has been decorated and designed to a very high standard and we loved the personal touches of bottled water and a biscuit by each bed. My Dad had an amazing birthday surprise weekend with our closest family and friends and the setting was perfect.

Response on behalf of the Owner; So pleased your father had a great birthday weekend. Thank you for your great review and score. Oldcastle Mill is a rural property situated in a hollow and in consequence, it is unlikely you will obtain mobile signal at the house. Wi-Fi is available. There is also a landline provided for emergency calls.

As a group of ladies wanting a welcoming space to get together and socialise, Old Castle Mill provided us with a delightful venue for our 3 night reunion. Although we had a technical issue with the TV system which was unfortunate, the owner made every effort to ensure that the problem was resolved as soon as was reasonably possible and it did not spoil our experience at Old Castle Mill. The weather was quite poor during our stay but the garden still looked appealing, We can only imagine how delightful it would have been in good conditions.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your positive feedback ladies. Murphy’s Law dictates that sometimes things do go wrong. At Old Castle Mill we will always do our very best to rectify any problems as soon as we possibly can.

Truly excellent property and scenic location. By far one of the best holiday rentals we have stayed in. Would definitely stay again. Visited in in early October and weather was great but imagine the downhill/uphill road might be a challenge in the dead of winter. Highly recommended.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your perfect score and lovely comments.

A lovely break with 3 generations. Lots of space in the house and in the garden to relax. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were very modern with piping hot water. The mill was stunning with brick and wood. Andi showed us where everything was and gave us bread milk and eggs.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your lovely feedback. Very pleased you enjoyed your weekend. Come back soon.

What a fantastic location to celebrate my mum's 60th surprise birthday with all the family. The property is beautifully decorated and clean! The grounds are well maintained and perfect for the children and dogs in our party. The water bottles, biscuits/sweets in the rooms were a lovely touch as was the bread, eggs and milk left in the kitchen on our arrival. We didn't want to leave.

Response on behalf of the owner; We really appreciate your lovely comments and great score, thank you so much. Glad your Mum and the family enjoyed the weekend. We hope to welcome you all again in the future.

The location was beautiful, and I can’t imagine a more picturesque setting to the rear, being surrounded by streams - the dog loved it! The house was beautiful, and as a construction degree student I loved the interior design. The area was good too, rural enough to be out of the hubbub but not too far from Chester or Nantwich. My only problem was that as we used all the bedrooms and my grandfather needs level access so had the annex bedroom, my husband and I in the ground floor bedroom had to either go outside and into the kitchen to use the toilet or risk intruding on the people in the bedroom above ours and going two flights of stairs to the toilet. That was not a reason to not comeback though, and are planning to return for our tenth anniversary!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback, so glad you enjoyed your break and looking forward to welcoming you back. We try hard to make improvements to what we offer at Oldcastle Mill in response to guests’ feedback. In this particular instance, there is nothing to be done unfortunately. The layout of the bedrooms is described accurately in the property description: there is a twin room which gives access to a lower double bedroom via a dedicated staircase. The lower double bedroom has external access to the lower floor which has a cloakroom with toilet and washbasin. Access is through a tiny courtyard, no more than three or four steps outside from the bedroom trifold door to the lower ground floor French doors. We hope this clarifies things for potential future guests.
