A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Old Applecroft is situated within 7 acres of grounds, close to the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Old Applecroft Farmhouse and Old Applecroft Farm Cottage are delightful, detached buildings, accessed via a track approximately ¾ mile long. As a welcome to this picturesque area, each booking in the farmhouse or the cottage will receive a welcome gift on arrival.
Old Applecroft Farmhouse has a farmhouse style throughout with the added feature of a large conservatory/games room with pool and table tennis where guests can enjoy 180° views of the surrounding 7 acres of grounds. It is set over a large area and includes a separate wing with a further living/games room. This is ideal for a large family, perfect for weekends away with close proximity to fantastic transport links, but situated deep in the countryside of Essex.
Old Applecroft Farm Cottage is also detached with a farmhouse style and ideal for small families and couples.
The village of Great Henny is very rural but has all you need including a shop and riverside pub/restaurant. The ancient market town of Sudbury is nearby as is the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to Saxon times, there is a long history in the weaving and silk industries. Much of the work by Thomas Gainsbourgh was inspired by the beauty of Sudbury and you can visit his birthplace, art gallery and museum, exhibiting a number of his paintings. The area is particularly famous for the work of Constable and is referred to as ’Constable Country’. The River Stour provides the setting for much of his work. To the east you can visit Colchester with shopping, restaurants and pubs. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Our second visit. House is beautifully presented and in an idyllic spot. Very well equipped, except for a hairdryer which we seem to think is now standard. The games room is a great time waster and the walk to the Henny Swan pub is lovely, especially on the bridle way.

We found the cottage well equipped and clean and it certainly met our needs. Before we went we had read some of the previous comments and we began to wonder about our choice. The single mile long track to the cottage was mainly tarmac or concrete and in a reasonable state and i’m Wondering why others mentioned it in their reviews. The track was wide enough to get a transist van down there without getting any scratches. The only issue is the bedroom with no curtains or blind. The biggest compliment would be to say we would use this cottage again.

This a great house for family get togethers where plenty of space (inside and out) is essential. Although only a short drive from Sudbury you feel quite remote, with lots of open views across the large grounds which are great if you are taking a four legged friend or children with too much energy to burn! Warm and welcoming with pleasant décor this is an easy house to stay in. On the negative side - the beds seem to vary in softness and the pillows were somewhat chunky. If you like soft or feather pillows, like us, you will need to take your own! However this doesn't really detract from the comfort of the house. We've only visited in winter, I would imagine in summer is even better. The only thing missing for us in the winter is a real fire - a wood burner would be a fantastic addition.

This luxury cottage is beautiful. There were 3 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs for our stay and masses of space! Stunning surroundings, lovely decor and an amazing games room. You have to have a car as the closest shops are at least a 10-15min drive away. Perfect place for families and people with dogs.

We had some issues with electrics while we stayed at the cottage but overall it was a very enjoyable weekend.

A beautiful house in beautiful grounds. Plus points were the games room and the local pub only a 25 minute walk away. The location is lovely but it should be made clearer just how narrow it is to get down to. We have some nice scratches on our Navara now due to brambles on either side of the already narrow track. The house could do with a better welcome pack telling you where things are. We spent ages trying to locate the highchair. Also information on the local area wouldn't have gone amiss. The cleanliness was not good. We had to wash all crockery and cutlery before being able to use it and general cleanliness was not great. Lots of old cobwebs everywhere. It was all just a bit unkept.

Lovely house, very clean and well kitted out. The conservatory and garden are lovely and relaxing in the good weather. Very convenient for Sudbury and all the beautiful towns and villages. The local pub The Henny Swan is very good with a lovely outside area for the summer.

The house and grounds are lovely, but access is poor. There are a lot of steps inside the house and no handrails which was a drawback for the more elderly in our party. The games room is very nice and the location is quiet, but there was a loud music festival over the Bank Holiday weekend. Plenty of places to visit in the area.

We very much enjoyed staying at the cottage. The large garden was ideal for grand children playing games and we all enjoyed cycling in surrounding beautiful area. There were a few things about the cottage which were rather annoying- one of the upstairs bedroom windows did not have any curtains or blinds, the front door doesn't always close securely which was a worry as we had a dog, the saucepans are not large enough to cater for 8 people, the left half of the toaster doesn't work, there were no small sharp knives for cutting veg etc, the waste bin lid doesn't stay down and there were no spare black bin bags. Apart from these faults we had a very enjoyable time.

I enjoyed a lovely week at the two properties and would have rated them both higher if it was not for the lack of such things as basic condiments and tea bags etc. on arrival. Although there was a large garden area, there was only one croquet set with missing hoops to keep both youngsters and adults amused. We did buy a couple of outside games which we have left at the property for others. We have also left a supply of the basic condiments for the next family that follows us in. I had requested a cot which we thought had been forgotten but then found under seating two days into our holiday. I believe this is a fairly new holiday rental and so assume these to be teething problems. They are both lovely properties, well maintained and in a beautiful setting. I would recommend them to anyone that wishes for a quiet holiday away from the hurly-burly of modern living and away from busy roads.

Good sized property with good amenities. But location directions guidance was not clear

This should have been a fantastic property. Owners have neglected it. Cobwebs, dirty windows, overgrown enclosed garden, dirty towel, unemptied bins, lack of blinds and curtains just took the sparkle off our stay. The weather was great so we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the garden where there was a mowed route for people to enjoy. Not sure how much we would have enjoyed this had there been somebody in the neighbouring cottage which looks as open to being looked in on as the property we stayed in with the exception of the hall between the two wings which was all glass and no curtains (this is the only way from the downstairs bedroom to the downstairs bathroom), and the fact the next door cottage windows look straight into the conservatory. The conservatory is a great seating room with table tennis table and pool table. The granny annex was nice but isolated from the rest of the property with its own lounge and bathroom. We wanted a nice quiet getaway and it certainly was that.

Very clean and comfortable. We had pretty awful weather over our long weekend - wet, windy and cold which prevented us from doing quite as much walking as we intended. The excellent heating was much appreciated! Pretty well equipped, hand soaps in the kitchen and bathroom would have been useful and also a couple of sharp knives for food preparation. The only other fault we could find was that one of the bedrooms didn't have curtains. But all in all we were very happy with the property and surroundings. Good weather would have been a bonus but nobody could organize that!!!!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you to all our guests that have taken time to review the Farmhouse. I am delighted to advise that Essex Council have now resurfaced our access road (May 2018).

The cottage is nice but the greenhouse leaks (buckets left by owner to catch water) and the fact there is no welcome pack is very disappointing. Also, big selling point is 7 acres to explore.... but then told dogs need to be kept on lead! And the garden is not private as several public footpaths run through it. And people walking through have their dogs off lead! Overall, could be perfect but needs work and thought about what is provided. Perhaps a fenced paddock for exercising dogs, and a small welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar and milk etc. Also essentials like toilet roll ran out!
