Description

This holiday property is located in the village of Hale, just 10 miles away from Liverpool city centre.

This charming semi-detached Grade II listed cottage, built in 1738 is situated in the heart of the historic village of Hale, just 2 miles from Liverpool John Lennon Airport and 10 miles from Liverpool city centre. Places to visit within easy reach include Speke Hall, Liverpool, Albert Dock, Knowsley Safari Park, Chester, Haydock and Aintree racecourses. Lovely cottage located on a beautiful friendly village, but unfortunately the village is located right under the landing flight path of John Lennon airport.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We did speak about this before your arrival. The landing flights are not all day by any means only certain times. I’m sorry you felt the need to give a negative review as we thought you had had a good time as you told Steve. Thank you for staying at Oak Cottage.

On reflection the cottage is calling out for some TLC or a schedule of continuous maintenance to keep the little problems becoming major issues which detract from the good location , history of the house and garden. The saying the more you look , the more you see is very true with this cottage. We loved the first view but on staying in the property it is clear the little things are not being rectified.I am not going to start listing all that was wrong but please step back and have a think about the standard that is promised but unfortunately is lacking.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you felt the need to leave such a negative review of Oak Cottage. We took the cottage over 8 Months ago and have rectified the important problems it had, I admit it needs a little TLC which we are doing bit by bit. I feel you have been very unfair in your review, if you had any problems you should have told us as you were informed the day of your arrival.

Ideally situated for Liverpool, bus stop right outside front door. Superb bistro just round the corner.

Another fantastic stay in this beautiful cottage, which is full of character and the most beautiful garden. We happily spent time just relaxing and enjoying the cottage and garden, as did our dogs. The changes made since our last visit, have improved the cottage even more, with more space in the living room and the garden much more secure (and the lights at night look lovely) Although the trip was primarily for work, the extra days we stayed at Oak Cottage made it feel like a proper holiday.

Found it very noisy with the low flying planes from nearby Liverpool airport and main village road outside the house.

If I needed to be in Hale for any reason in the future, I'd definitely stay here again. The owners live very near, and are absolutely lovely people. The house was very clean and tidy, and the garden is large, fully enclosed (great if you have a dog!) and lovely. As far as areas for improvement, I just have a few comments: 1. less perfumed spray throughout the house - it was overpowering - ESPECIALLY on the bed (I think the bedding was sprayed, and it was way too strong for me). 2. The house was lovely and warm, but the master bedroom is quite cold (not surprising for a 300 year old cottage!). I'd recommend having some extra heavy blankets available, rather than just the one, very thin one in the closet. Luckily, I wasn't using the 2nd bedroom, so I was able to use one of the duvets in that room on my bed. 3. Having a cafetiere available for people who like "real coffee" would be great. They're small, cheap, and would be a welcome addition. ;-) Other than those three, minor things, it was a truly lovely cottage and a good experience. Kudos to the owners!

Under a flight path. Planes started at 6.30am. Thankfully not a Sunday. Also check out time was very early. But still a beautiful cottage and a lovely village

We had a great weekend at Oak Cottage. Ann was very helpful and made us most welcome. The cottage was comfortable with everything we needed for a relaxing break. Ideally situated opposite the park and the pub and next to the shop. Lovely walks nearby, particularly to the lighthouse. The dogs loved exploring the large garden! Will definitely book again!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage again. The area is stunning and a great pub just down the road. Our dog loves the garden and the park over the road
