A very charming little cottage, with parking and a garden. Sampford Courtenay is ideally situated for exploring. The downside to the cottage is that it is on a crossroads and the traffic noise is incessant night and day. We appreciate it's hay making time but numerous lorries and tankers pass through there. Sadly that would stop us returning. The ground floor living area is lovely and provides everything you need. However there were two problems upstairs. In the smaller bedroom the mattress needs replacing, it had a huge dip in the middle, which was aggravated by the sloping floorboards, we tried turning it over but it was still the same, so did not provide support or a comfortable nights sleep. In the main bedroom the floorboards slope in all sorts of directions but the biggest problem is that there is a step up in the middle of the room which is fine during the day but when dark is easy to forget, and my husband tripped over it but luckily wasn't injured. Other guests have mentioned it and a danger tape has been stuck on it but as previously suggested, if the floor was levelled with a step at the door to the bedroom the problem would be resolved.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; It is always most helpful if maintenance or other issues are brought to our attention at the time. We and/or the Agency will always endeavour to take prompt remedial action where reasonable and practicable. Perhaps worth noting, is that in a 300+ year old property, sloping/uneven floors are common and that structural/safety issues can preclude the most obvious solutions to some perceived problems. The comfort, safety and well-being of all guests is a priority so fault-reporting like leaving the cottage clean on departure is a courtesy to the next guests. Being in a rural farming area, agri-business traffic fluctuates according to season and weather. This year has seen more such traffic due to hay cutting and catching up after the exceptionally wet spring. Subsequent guests have not found traffic incessant or intrusive, nor from our Visitors Book, has traffic noise been an issue for the majority of guests over the last couple of years.

Friendly hostess and host. Very dog friendly with the run of the orchard and paddock. Both north and south coast attractions within reach and several NT properties within easy reach.

We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome by Zoe and her dog Oakley. After Dave our dog met and happily made friends with Oakley, Zoe showed us around the cottage and then left us to warm up the scones she had left for us to enjoy with a nice cup of well-earned tea, strawberry jam and clotted Devonshire cream. A great start to Devon and a true delight! The night before our arrival, Zoe had offered to reserve us a table in the village pub across the road, for our first night, which we accepted. We were glad we did because the food was tasty and beer very good. The cottage itself was clean, tidy and had everything needed by 2 adults and one dog. The location was ideal to explore both moors. Although it was chilly outside, it was lovely and warm inside the cottage. Zoe was very helpful. We would definitely go back to stay at North Town Cottage and recommend it for a good stay in Devon. Graeme, Debbie and Dave the dog
