Situated on the Northumberland Coastal Route with its stunning coastline of dunes and beaches, boasting magnificent views of Dunstanburgh Castle, lies North Farm Cottages. These charming holiday homes will delight all ages. Once the heart of the farm, these stone built cottages have been expertly created in the former granaries, workshops, barns and byres of the steading, with great attention to detail by the caring owners, to offer a holiday experience to remember.
Located on the edge of Embleton village, close to the popular villages of Craster, renowned for its smoked kippers, Beadnell with its water sports, and Newton-by-the-Sea with its National Trust beach. The town of Alnwick is only 7 miles away, with its majestic castle (used in Harry Potter films), the enchanting Alnwick Gardens, playhouse, cobbled streets, inns and restaurants. Dunstanburgh Castle in nearby Craster makes a lovely scenic walk along the cliff top, reached only by foot. Seahouses, known for its fine fish and chips and small working harbour, is always a visitor’s favourite. Holy Island is not to be missed, but remember to check the tide times, or take a relaxing boat trip to the Farne Islands to see the puffins or seals.
Embleton village has a friendly pub, restaurant, garage, post office and local shop, a well-equipped children’s park and magnificent sandy bay. A beach hut is also available to hire in Newton-by-the-Sea, a National Trust beach, by arrangement with the owners. There is a privately mown path to the beach at Newton-by-the-Sea and to the village of Embleton across the owner’s land. There is also a play park, duck pond and activities such as a mini beast mansion to keep the children occupied on their way to the beach, including a picnic area with breathtaking views of Dunstanburgh Castle and a WWll pillbox. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.75 miles.

We have stayed locally many times in a variety of cottages. North Farm Retreat is very pleasant and a superb place to spend a relaxing week. The house was big enough for us (family of 4 and a small dog) and the location is brilliant. Being able to walk to the beach and Embleton without going on the road is excellent. The dog loved the many walks we were able to do and the park and space was fantastic for the boys. One of the greatest draws, though, and what sets it apart, is the lovely swimming pool you have to yourself - fabulous! The booking system could probably do with looking at as you are simply given time slots and you need to work your holiday around them. Nobody says if they aren't going to be using the pool so there are quite long periods where it is underutilised. That said, it was so good we were very grateful for having it full stop! Only other slight (and I mean slight, proper first works problems) draw back was some of the equipment in the kitchen wasn't great - made us appreciate our non-stick equipment at home. Was also very difficult to make things like a chilli with the pans available. Only having 4 washing up tablets was possibly a little unluxurious - we appreciate they might go missing if a whole tub was left, but other cottages had a more luxurious feel with some very minor touches: there wasn't any soap in the bathroom or kitchen either. We bought some and left it for future guests, but it would be nice to have it as standard. So, very minor points aside, an amazing place and now our favourite in the area, which is high praise indeed! Will book again very soon.

It was a wonderful holiday that will never be forgotten. The pool was enjoyable and the sceneries were wonderful. We shall visit back one day, and sure I do recommend it for everybody.

Great cottage, cosy and warm, good mod cons, parking on driveway. Swimming pool warm and clean. Childrens play park on site, duck pond too. Path to the beach is good as its safe to let the dog off but it's a bit of a trek especially if walking back in swimwear or wet suits (40mins) dog rules on coastal path: to clear up after dog which I 100% agree and did except no bins at all provided along the way so had to carry dog bag quite a few miles. Very nice beach and bird hide, Lots of things to do and see and we would return.
