Description

Situated in a rural setting yet many attractions are within easy reach, including beaches and seal spotting at Blakeney Point.

This brick-and-flint, oak-cut, vaulted timber-roofed adjoining barn (left hand side in exterior photograph) is situated on an arable farm, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in this unspoilt secret corner of England.
Steeped in ancient/modern history, this rare-for-Norfolk undulating countryside has a wealth of architecture and historic sites, along with unusual villages, market towns of Holt and Fakenham, and the fabulous North Norfolk coastline incorporating such places as Blakeney, Holkham, Morston Quay and many more for the visitor to discover all within easy reach of this Grade II listed building.
Bale is a typical rural village in a farming community, noted for the famous Bale Oaks. A mile away on the A148 is the filling station with off licence and mini-market open 7 days a week. 3 miles away is the fascinating village of Binham with the priory ruins, family run pub/restaurant, a local butchers, and a garage with store full of an array of goods. Wonderful Wells is only 6 miles, a visitors haven, a traditional fishing village with all the usual tourist attractions along with craft shops and art galleries.
Hall Farm has been in the family for four generations and the Barn has been beautifully restored by the owner, in 2008, with careful consideration to comfort, design and style. With the hand crafted oak staircase that leads to the vast vaulted ceiling with exposed original oak beams, is the open-plan living/dining-room/farmhouse kitchen area with an ornamental wood burner and granite worktops allowing light and brilliant views. Solid oak floors and doors give a traditional feel to this fine dwelling. The twin bedroom, which tucks nicely under the beams allowing a closer look at the handmade ancient crafted roof, provides the lower ceiling to the kitchen and dining area. There is a toilet on this level.
Downstairs are the three large bedrooms - a double with 5ft bed and en-suite, twin bed with French doors to courtyard and a further bedroom with three pine beds, as well as the washing/drying facilities. All bedrooms have fitted carpets and there is underfloor heating throughout.
The owner’s aim is to provide guests with everything that is needed for the perfect holiday.

Entrance hall with access to courtyard. Step to three bedrooms; one double with 6ft bed and en-suite wet room with bath and toilet, two twin bedrooms, one with French doors, one with additional single bed (for +1). Wet room with bath and toilet. Oak stairs to first floor: Spacious beamed living/dining room with pitched roof, exposed oak beams, farmhouse-style kitchen area. Separate toilet. Steep paddle-style stairs to twin bedroom.

The barn itself is very nice. The communal area upstairs with kitchen, dining area and sitting area is a great space for the family to cook, eat, play and relax together. However, we were disappointed with the cleanliness. One of the windowsills in the main living area was full of dead flies, cobwebs and even an old sweet! That being said, I must just say that the bed linen and towels provided were clean and smelled beautifully fresh. The shower in the main bathroom reminded us of the old school showers from our youth (That was quite a long time ago!) although it was perfectly functional. Another slight disappointment was the garden. It isn't attached to the property itself. You have to walk a short distance down a shared driveway to get to it so we couldn't just let the dog wander in and out. It was also advertised as fully enclosed, but there is a large gap at the end of the garden which meant we had to keep the dog on a lead the whole time. There is a small courtyard within the property which also has the potential to be very nice, but weeds have been left to grow and discarded cigarette butts from previous occupants left on the floor. We did enjoy our stay but feel that some time and money needs to be spent refreshing the place as it does look a little rough around the edges.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are so sorry. Please, please do tell us about these problems as soon as you see them and we will rush in and rectify the problems straight away. These particular oversights happened because one of our barn owls had visited the porch. The very hot weather meant his calling cards had set like concrete and so we went into ‘extra time’ which resulted in forgetting to check the other things. We would have been very happy to come back and meet you so please, please say immediately. The shower is a continental ‘wet room’ design with lots of elbow room and no dangerous stepping. It also has underfloor heating to keep it dry. We are very glad that you liked North Barn and noticed our lovely linen. Thank you for your review.
