We were staying here with our two westies as it was handy for visiting family and although it is small it was the perfect size for us and great location being right beside Rutland water (which is beautiful and has miles of invigorating walks). The cottage has all the basics and have to say sleeping in single beds at least I got to keep the duvet for a change! Don’t expect hi tech here and it’s definitely shabby chic as could do with a redecorate but I loved it, even though my hubby missed the Internet for me it was a great break! So if you want peace and quiet, great location and basically somewhere cosy then Mushroom cottage is for you we will definitely be back!!

We’ve just had a wonderful week at Mushroom cottage. Humans and dogs really enjoyed the cosy cottage and local walks. The owner was really lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. Such a wonderful private spot but so close to all we needed for the week. We will definitely be back! Simply blissful!

This place is so basic nothing like any place we have stayed before. The storage heater in kitchen /living room is so old the heat from it is minimal. The heater in the bedroom was switched off on arrival so it was really cold as never heated up till next day. The one saving grace was the beds. They are so comfortable. It’s in lovely surroundings but some T.L.C. needs putting in the cottage.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am aware that on arrival the guest called to say she found the cottage a bit chilly. I advised her how to increase the heat from the storage heaters, and explained that the previous occupants had had them on low as the weather had been quite warm. (The weather had been so variable, going from 19 degrees on the Thursday, to 9 degrees the following day). I called that evening to ask if they were warm enough and offered additional heaters, which they declined, saying they were fine, and heard nothing more. The reference to the age of the storage heater in the sitting room, it is a new heater that was installed less than two years ago, and is very effective and efficient. I’m pleased that they found the beds to be most comfortable, especially as they commented when leaving they had been all been unwell (including the dog) for all their stay. I wonder if that’s why they felt chilly, as when I read the gauge it read 23.5 degrees in the cottage. Unfortunately, it rained most days of their stay, which always puts the damper on a holiday. I’m pleased they enjoyed the chocolates and cakes provided. I hope that all are feeling better.

Cottage was very nice but as we have 2 very active dogs the area wasn’t a great choice as you are not allowed to let dogs off leads around Rutland water. Our own fault for not reading up more on the area.

Location excellent for Rutland Water. Reasonably well equipped. If staying during a cold spell, check that the storage heaters will be turned on before you arrive
