Game cottage is a quirky one room accommodation situated perfectly for exploring Rutland Water. It is great for a short break and the owner is very welcoming. The property did lack some basic utensils but a list was left and hopefully they have now been provided. The description on the website is accurate but misleading when it says “with beautiful views over Rutland Water” and “situated within a walled garden” and “overlooking Rutland water”. True, the property is situated in a walled garden but there is no access to this garden due to a large hedge. This hedge also prevents easy views of Rutland water unless you stand up and look through the holes cut in the edge. There are no views from within the property. However, a short 2-minute walk takes you to the hotel garden which is situated on the water’s edge and has great views. Although there were some leaflets in the cottage the property would benefit from an information pack with details on local shops, supermarkets, cash points, petrol station, banks, doctor & vets etc. Rutland water is a beautiful place to visit but due to the number of bikes I would not recommend it for dog owners unless your dog is happy on a short lead at all times. Overall a comfortable property for a short break to explore Rutland water.

It was just what I needed - quiet, clean, homely and comfortable. A minor issue with lights was quickly sorted by the owner. The perfect place for a complete rest, with plenty of walking right on the doorstep. A local shop, and pubs are within walking distance, or a short drive away and there is lots to see in nearby Oakham and Stamford.
