We were looking for Self Catering so we were surprised at the lack of a table and chairs for dining - there is room. Also the frying pan was tiny - no omelettes or steaks for us! There was no extractor fan so we had to sit in the cooking smell. The overall stay was fine but we had to eat our evening meals on our laps and we normally sit at the table chatting and playing cards but we had to watch tv instead.

Hadn't expected a large one but cottage was exceptionally small, we got used to this and ate out rather than sit an individual picnic type tables in the porch to eat, which we didn't expect to do as I like to cook when we're away. I suppose it's what would be called quaint with the thick walls (which did keep the cottage cool in the very hot weather at the time) and the door latches, but you couldn't open and close these without making a noise, and waking your partner in the night when going to the toilet. The size of the bedroom amazed us being only just wide enough and long enough to have single beds either side of the door, no bedside tables , with the 'wardrobes' - very narrow cupboards - forming the bedhead. There was a sliding door space under the bed which took our small cases - if they'd been any larger I don't know where we would have put them - and we kept most of our clothes in the cases. What annoyed us most was the lack of water pressure in the shower, didn't feel we'd washed away the soap and I have a skin allergy and need to make sure I do. The location was great being very close to Rutland Water which we'd been looking forward to visiting, we will be going again, but not I'm afraid to this cottage.

Response on behalf of the Owner; I’m pleased that you found the cottage quaint, which is exactly what it is. The photos are very accurate (on the booking website), and capture the character of the cottage. Regarding tables and chairs for dining, as the weather has been so wonderful, most guests choose to dine in the garden where there is a circular table and chairs. This table can be moved in the conservatory if one wishes. The cottage is very much in keeping with its age and character, hence the doors having farmhouse style latches... all I can suggest is not to use force to open them, be gentle. There is storage under the full length of each bed, and hanging space behind the bed head. The beds are of a standard size, but I appreciate that as this guest was well over 6 ft. he must find it difficult when beds are fitted. I am pleased that they enjoyed the location, and found the cottage quaint, if not a little small for their requirements. If our larger cottages had been available, I would have been more than happy to have moved them across. If visiting again, I would suggest Copper Beech or Mushroom as they both have bigger beds and a dining room table.

Very basic, wouldn’t call it a cottage, felt like we were sitting in a garage, shower was a trickle, no comfort

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I’m sorry that Apple Cottage wasn’t how you envisaged it to be, I’m not quite sure why it wasn’t when the photos and the description on the website are exact, down to the cakes and flowers for your arrival. The majority of people who stay find it to be a charming, sweet little cottage...I hope you managed to explore the area even though the weather wasn’t good, never makes a good holiday with bad weather.
