Yorkshire Cottages

The Yorkshire Regional Specialist -Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Yorkshire better!

Set in 15 acres of shared grounds, this attractive cottage has a cosy open fire and access to a communal swimming pool and tennis court. Pickering and the North York Moors are within easy reach.

Located only 6 miles from the historic city of York, this cottage is part of a group which has been renovated to an extremely good standard having been equipped and furnished with quality fittings and fixtures. Tasteful co-ordinating soft furnishings have been used, and each light, bright property has a cosy open fire set in an attractive red brick surround. Attached to most of the properties is a lovely private patio and lawned garden, making it a great place for younger children to play; barbecues, portable paddling pools and outdoor toys are available. The indoor heated swimming pool, which is open daily all year round for the exclusive use of the visitors to Claxton Grange Cottages, has full changing and shower facilities, and there is also a spacious conservatory to relax in which opens onto a large enclosed lawned area for sunnier days. For the more energetic there is a full sized outdoor tennis court, games room and children’s play area.

Claxton Grange is a perfect base for exploring all the historic attractions of York, including the large medieval minster with its wealth of stained glass. Take a walk along the city walls or visit the Jorvik Viking Centre where the spirit of the Vikings is held captive for all time. Nowhere tells the story of the train better than the National Railway Museum from Stephenson’s Rocket to Eurostar. Art galleries, museums, and guided trips on the River Ouse - why not try the Ghost Cruise on an evening? York has top quality shopping, excellent restaurants and bistros and old timber-framed pubs serving wholesome food and real cask ales. Within easy driving distance is the busy market town of Pickering and the North York Moors beyond. A little further afield are the many seaside resorts and pretty fishing villages along the east coast. Alternatively access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park will take no time at all. Set within 15 acres of well kept grounds, including a lovely wildlife pond with reeds and lillies, all of which have been thoughtfully flood-lit for darker evening strolls Claxton Grange Cottages offer guests a very warm welcome. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Ideal for children with the swimming pool and games room (charges apply) . "Renovated to an extremely good standard" not for a few years. All beds were very uncomfortable , the cooker came out of unit if you did not hold the side when opening the oven, the floodlit areas were not on while we were there. The bbqs were not by the cottage there are two outdoor ones by the swimming pool and we were not going to lug food a 100 yds to cook it . Took 15 minutes to turn right towards York once so we went left and turned right further down as the traffic is very busy.

We liked the cottage and the grounds and kids loved pool but: The wifi was virtually unusable in the garden room We were led to believe that laundry was 50p a go. Turned up and intro booklet said £1 per go. However, the machines were actually £2 each. My children have bad eczema so we took our own sheets but ended up spending fortune on laundry. None of the equipment in the cottages were PAT tested. Absolute nightmare getting onto the A64 especially if turning towards York.

On the A64, so very busy traffic. Double bed mattress needs to be replaced as very uncomfortable. Single bed also needs to be replaced as spring in bed was uncomfortable for our son. Pool and games room were good for children, but you do have to pay for pool table and foos ball.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. We are very sorry to hear that your were not fully satisfied with the beds within this cottage. Please be assured that your comment will be addressed and we will make the necessary steps to rectify this with a new mattress if required. The games room contains a pool table which requires 1x20p coin plus 1x10p coin to operate and a foosball table which requires 1x50p coin to operate. This is stated on our website and within our guest manual. All other facilities, the swimming pool, tennis courts and play equipment do not incur any charges.
