Much of the grounds are free for guests to explore and the lakes on site are a haven for wildlife, and create stunning backdrops for holiday photographs. The tennis court is available for use by guests, with prior arrangement with the owners.

The cottages are located in the village of Dorrington which has a local shop, pubs/restaurants and a family butchers, and is approximately 5 miles from Shrewsbury with its black and white framed buildings, steep narrow streets and alleyways, and over 600 listed buildings. This medieval, market town boasts many bars, shops, restaurants and bistros, the Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury Castle and cruises on the River Severn. The picturesque market town of Ludlow is 20 miles away, situated on a cliff above the River Teme and hosting events and festivals throughout the year. Other places of interest and attractions within close proximity include Long Mynd with a glider centre, Church Stretton, Much Wenlock, Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, an historic, working farm at the Acton Scott Estate, Condover Hall Activity Centre, Ironbridge and museums, Bridgnorth and National Trust’s Carding Mill Valley. Located approx 1.3 miles from the main road, the cottage is one of many, linked in a square with a well kept lawn in the centre. The lawn in turn is surrounded by a variety of flowering shrubs. As far as we could see, the nearest village (Dorrington) had just one small shop with a limited selection of items, the nearest supermarket being some 4 - 5 miles away. The cottage itself was found to have very few cooking and eating utensils e.g. pans/bowls etc., insufficient in our view for a holiday rental. The TV remote control was found to have a faulty on/off button and on inspection a site maintenance officer said that a new one will be ordered (not much use to us). As an aside the TV reception was not the greatest, some channels breaking up. In addition, as the DVD player was unable to 'communicate' with the TV, I was unable to play a DVD from my collection. The dishwasher was also highly inefficient. As 'so-called' dish-washed items were found to be in need of further hand washing, we thereafter chose not to use it. The door on the (rather small) fridge did not appear to close properly; net result, the motor was constantly working and perhaps as a result of this, the freezer compartment is in need of defrosting. The toilets did not flush as effectively as one would expect, the handles of same being somewhat loose and askew. The kitchen dining table had a tacky feel to it, even after wiping it clean; suspect incorrect preparation before varnishing here. On retrieving an accidentally dropped coin on the floor, observed that the floor under the bed was very dusty. Noticed quite a lot of cigarette buts in the empty flower trough outside the cottage. (Thought that the whole site was non-smoking). Having just returned from a similar short break in another cottage in the north east, which was excellent, the present cottage was disappointing. It might be an exception to the other cottages on the site but we can only report what we found.
