Navigation Cottage is situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, within the picturesque village of Rodmell. This Grade II listed cottage, built in 1680, was originally a farriers and boasts a pretty garden and beamed accommodation with an open fire and wood burner. It makes an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of Sussex, close to the South Downs Way National Trail. This is an excellent spot for walkers with footpaths directly from the doorstep, or take a stroll down to the River Ouse where you can spot kingfishers, herons, swans and cormorants. Garden lovers can experience first hand one of the greatest joys of the writer Virginia Wolf, as her garden at Monks House, now owned by the National Trust, is just along the road from the cottage.
The River Ouse also provides opportunities for fishing at Barcombe Mills where you can also hire a boat and glide down the river. Visit Lewes, the county town of East Sussex and see Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves house and perhaps spot the Harveys dray horses delivering the local beer. Brighton is 10½ miles away with its popular sandy beach, the British Airways i360 viewing tower, a stroll along the pier or simply meander amongst The Lanes. Pack a picnic and head for Glyndebourne or bring your passport and take a trip to France from Newhaven, just 5 miles away. Beach 6½ miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 550 yards.

This was a great cottage and location for us and our one year old spaniel. Lovely countryside and walks straight from the house.

A fantastic cottage which was a wonderful base for friends catching up. Susan has made the cottage very cosy and welcoming. We liked the sitting room, dining room and kitchen very much, and really enjoyed sitting out in the front garden. Well equipped and very clean, we would really recommend staying here!

Lovely warm and cosy cottage, comfortable with enough headroom for my 6ft 3in frame! Only downside is the lack of a local shop, the owner is very nice and friendly, will definitely stay again.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely, cosy cottage in an idyllic village. Very warm and comfortable with everything provided. A great location for exploring the area, such as Lewes, Brighton, Cuckmere and South Downs.

This is a beautifully presented cottage, with charm, character, good taste, and great comfort. We enjoyed a week exploring the countryside nearby, and trips to Brighton and Lewes. We also had a BBQ enjoying the glorious gardens, both at the front and rear. It was very hot weather, but due to the thick stone walls, we kept cool - and you would equally keep warm in the winter. The beds were comfortable, so no problem getting good night's sleep. There was also a very generous and delicious 'welcome basket' for us when we arrived. We'll certainly be returning to this delightful home.

A lovely welcoming cottage which proved to be a great base for walking the South Downs Way and doing a “Bloomsbury Group” trail. There was a great welcome pack of food which was invaluable on arrival, heating was generous and effective, all our needs were well met. A perfect place to be introduced to Sussex.

We loved the cottage. It is very comfortable and has a pretty garden. It is in a beautiful location just near to the Monk's House and with access to lots of lovely walks. It is also great that it's not too far from Southease Station. It had everything we needed, with a great supply of books and games. We had a lovely Easter weekend, with a great walk across the downs to Firle and a trip to Brighton. We would definitely recommend and hope that we can rent the house again.
