Navigation Cottage is situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, within the picturesque village of Rodmell. This Grade II listed cottage, built in 1680, was originally a farriers and boasts a pretty garden and beamed accommodation with an open fire and wood burner. It makes an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of Sussex, close to the South Downs Way National Trail. This is an excellent spot for walkers with footpaths directly from the doorstep, or take a stroll down to the River Ouse where you can spot kingfishers, herons, swans and cormorants. Garden lovers can experience first hand one of the greatest joys of the writer Virginia Wolf, as her garden at Monks House, now owned by the National Trust, is just along the road from the cottage. The River Ouse also provides opportunities for fishing at Barcombe Mills where you can also hire a boat and glide down the river. Visit Lewes, the county town of East Sussex and see Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves house and perhaps spot the Harveys dray horses delivering the local beer. Brighton is 10½ miles away with its popular sandy beach, the British Airways i360 viewing tower, a stroll along the pier or simply meander amongst The Lanes. Pack a picnic and head for Glyndebourne or bring your passport and take a trip to France from Newhaven, just 5 miles away. Beach 6½ miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 550 yards.
