This stone-built, single-storey, detached, Grade II listed cottage is situated next to the owners property. It has been thoughtfully renovated making it a perfect warm, cosy base, with its beautiful beamed ceiling throughout and gas wood burner. Rurally located amidst beautiful countryside in the Amber Valley, and accessed via a country track, it is close to the popular, pretty village of Ashover - home to one of the Peak District’s oldest pubs, a CAMRA pub of the year and reportedly haunted by a couple of ghosts. This is an ideal base from which to explore all that the wonderful Peak District has to offer. Chesterfield, with its crooked spire, is just 20 minutes to the north, and the town of Matlock, home to warm springs, Leys Hall Park and a cable car rises high above the Derwent river, is just 10 minutes to the south. There is excellent walking direct from the door, and even the opportunity to follow the Ashover Audio Trail around Ashover Village itself bringing the history of the village to life. Bakewell, home of the Bakewell Pudding and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, are just half an hour away, as is the spa town of Buxton with its diverse architecture and famous opera house. The enormously popular village of Castleton with its caves can be easily reached within an hour, as can Hathersage, famous for its associations with the Eyre Family and home to an outdoor swimming pool. From countryside to history, public house to fine eateries and shops, there really is plenty to see and do from this wonderful location. Fishing and riding nearby. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

We had a short stay at the start of July. The cottage is down a long track off the main road so a quiet peaceful location, with many different walks straight from the door, which was great for our pooch. Cottage had everything we needed for the stay and was comfortable, though the bathroom was a bit on the smaller side for us, good shower though. Nice private enclosed patio area on the side which got earlier sunshine. Main issue was there were 2 small skylights, one over the bedroom and one over the living area, with no covering which let in a lot of light from first thing - we found this out on the first morning. This might not be an issue for everyone but I am a light sleeper and didn't want to be up at 4:30 when our dog also thought it was time to get up! Contacted the owner the next day and they did cover over the bedroom one for us which did help a lot. Hopefully they will add the option to cover with blinds or shutters. Great location for visiting Bakewell, Chatsworth, Matlock. Nice 15 min walk to nearest village Ashover with 3 pubs and other footpath loops from the track. Farm shop and cafe 2 mins drive up the main road. Overall good stay and friendly owners.
