Description

Set on the banks of a river in the tranquil countryside, Moulin de Huno is an ancient watermill which has been converted into a rustic holiday home

Set on the banks of a river in the tranquil countryside, Moulin de Huno is an ancient watermill which has been converted into a rustic holiday home. Retaining many of its original features, including the water wheel, the mill provides the ideal rural retreat for those wanting to escape modern life. The living room still has the traditional earthenware tiled floor and a vast fireplace, to make the atmosphere cosy on cooler days. The surroundings are mainly woodlands and meadows, where you can while away the days exploring on foot or by bicycle. Nearby La Gacilly is a pretty town bordering the river which is loved by local painters.

Approximate distance to Rennes airport is 108 km.

The Mill has been very tastefully refurbished, the location is fabulous - very peaceful sitting by the river. There is a brilliant barbecue, a boat to go up the river (we saw otters), lots of lawn for the children, and a choice of eating places. La Gacilly and Carentoir have good shopping within a few minutes drive. La Gacilly with its photography exhibition, pretty cobbled streets, and wide range of shopping and restaurants is really lovely. The local area is great for pottering about and exploring the countryside and unspoilt towns, and it about 40 minutes drive to the coast. Inside, the mill is very authentic, which has its advantages and disadvantages. The small windows meant that whilst the mill is cool, you don't get the through flow of air in hot weather. We found the seating uncomfortable, the fridge didn't work well, the glass / crockery / cutlery, oven and bedding not to today's expectations for a property of this price. A few small updates would make a lot of difference. The inside is very dark. All that aside, in summary - if you plan to be out and about and would enjoy the outside with less concern about creature comforts, you will - as we did - enjoy your stay. The beds are comfortable and it is a magical location.
