Perfect for couples or small families, Morgay Cottage is within easy reach of sandy beaches and historical attractions, there’s something for everyone.

Approached down a long driveway, alongside the fields where you may spot the resident peacock, Morgay Cottage adjoins the main farmhouse and is an ideal base for exploring east Sussex and 1066 Country. Located in Staplecross, on a working farm, the cottage enjoys views over the surrounding fields and woodland.
1066 Country offers ramblers and nature lovers an opportunity to indulge in their passions. Why not visit Battle Abbey and Battlefield, and if you visit in October, you’ll catch the annual battle re-enactment. See Rudyard Kipling’s home ’Bateman’s’ in Burwash, the moated Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens and Scotney Castle, with 770-acres of gardens and woodland, all available close by. Take a boat trip along the River Rother at Newenden, or a steam train journey through the glorious rolling countryside on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway. The area is also rich in vineyards, so you must try some of the delicious English wines at Chapel Down, organic wines at Sedlescombe and Carr Taylor vineyards in Westfield. The seaside resort of Hastings and the sand dunes at Camber make for enjoyable days out. Beach 9½ miles. Shop 1¾ miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Lovely place to stay. Very clean with everything you need for your holiday. I had a bit of an accident whilst at Bewl Water and unfortunately, it did have an impact on our 3 day short break as I had to spend a day at the Conquest hospital A&E followed by an appointment at East Grinstead the following day (fractured eye socket) but Jenny (owner) was amazing and turned up with a couple of bottles of wine to soften the blow. We would definitely return to stay at Morgay Cottage as it's in a really good location for getting around and about and the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome (toiletries, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee etc). It's only about 10 mins drive to Bodiam Castle, not far from Bewl Water (although mind the tree roots!), a short drive from Hastings and not far at all from Battle. Yes, we will definitely be returning.

We had a lovely short break at this cottage. It was particularly well equipped and we appreciated plenty of homely touches - thick curtains to keep out the light, mirrors, sockets, hooks and storage in all the places you’d want them. Worked well for our family - my husband and I, a 6 year old and a 1 year old - new travel cot and high chair helpfully provided. Nice days out in Hastings, Camber Sands and several NT properties nearby. We were surprised to be able to book a short break during Easter hols and at a great price. We didn’t get round to using it but there was a DVD player so not sure why this was mentioned in a previous review.

Could have done with the advertised dvd player, a spare toilet roll shouldn't have to be asked for.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We work very hard to maintain the cottage to a high standard and attempt to give a home from home for all of our guests, including our welcome pack which includes, milk, wine, bottled water, biscuits and a range of black and fruit teas, coffee and decaf along with fresh flowers, toiletries, towels, kitchen roll and toilet roll. Unfortunately, we were unaware that the DVD player was missing and it is a shame you didn’t ask and we would have replaced it straightaway. With regard to the toilet roll we usually find that one roll is enough for a 7 night stay, however, as a self catering property it is normal to arrange these items yourselves, our welcome pack is not designed to last throughout the stay. We also pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the property. We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay to the full.

We found the cottage very cozy and well equipped. The proprietor surprised us with flowers, a bottle of wine and all kinds of other things that made our stay enjoyable. Three people fits exactly. Our dog could run with the owner's dog, a lovely young black labrador. There are plenty of trips to make in the neighbourhood.

Perfect peace and quiet deep within the Susses forests. At night you needed the torch if you ventured outside, pitch black. The cottage is small but very clean with everything one can expect including a nice tele with a good reception. We never got to meet the family cat but made a good friendship with Sheba the friendly black lab who seems to run the place. We did not go very far but there are many interesting places on the doorstep, for provisions Waitrose proved to be a winner.

First cottage holiday with the dogs. We all had a great time, loads of walks a 5 minute car ride away. Cottage is very well appointed, including a hairdryer, dog treats and t-bags! The bed was very comfortable, and the nights so peaceful.
