Description

Sympathetically converted from an old farm building, providing a cosy and well maintained home from home in the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

Moorland Cottage is one of three cottages which are set in the heart of the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Hutton-le-Hole, famous for its meandering beck, old stone cottages and expanse of common land which is kept well-manicured by the resident sheep. The cottage provides the ideal base for walking, cycling, touring and exploring the moors, coast, vale and dale. It has been sympathetically converted from old farm buildings to offer cosy, home from home accommodation. From the doorstep visitors can enjoy the popular Ryedale Folk Museum, tea rooms, craft shops, galleries and the village’s own chocolate factory. The well-established village pub offers a warm welcome and a menu of hearty home-cooked meals. Cyclists are very welcome and there is ample storage for bikes and equipment at the property. There are many cycling trails in Dalby Forest which is just a 20-minute drive away. Walkers are well catered for with fabulous, scenic walking on the doorstep. On-site there is a shared utility room where boots and outdoor clothing can be dried and stored. Visit Pickering (9 miles) and board the famous steam train for a stunning trip through the North York Moors to the fishing port of Whitby. Enjoy the quaint market towns of Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley with their delightful selection of shops, restaurants and inns alongside attractions including the Centre for Birds of Prey and the Walled Garden. The Arts Centre in Helmsley offers a broad range of theatre, music, cinema and exhibitions and throughout the summer months the outdoor swimming pool is popular with children. Historic houses can be found at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall and there are abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland. Family fun can be found at Flamingo Land and Go Ape and there are miles of sandy beaches at the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. The ancient city of York is just an hour’s drive. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Moorland cottage is not in my reckoning 4 star, on moving in the carpet was stained near the door, the bedrooms although roomy were very basic. The kitchen is not very big, no room for more than 1 person at a time cooking, the fridge/freezer could have done with a defrost/clean. The only room I would say was 4 star was the bathroom, very modern, clean but I think kids would struggle with the toilet as it was higher than normal. The garden at the rear of the property is very much overgrown and could do with a good clear out. A just satisfactory holiday cottage that could do with a more attention to bring it up too the standard that I expected.

We had a lovely week in Moorland Cottage, it is in a beautiful village with lovely walks on the doorstep. The cottage is the perfect place to come back to after a long walk around the moors or countryside. It is warm, cosy and welcoming with a big paddock for our dog to run around in (fully enclosed). The sheep wander freely around the village and there is a great local pub (again dog friendly) best to book as always busy. We loved it and would love to come again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Moorland Cottages have recently been inspected by our Regional Manager and they all passed well with a 4* rating. The cottages are all clean and in order and there’s nothing that we can think of that needs sorting out. As the guest didn’t say anything specific nor make any comments during their stay, we are unable to comment specifically on their feedback.

We loved it and it was perfect for our two dogs with the fields out the back so they could run about it. The local pub was just round the corner and we visited Ryedale Folk Museum and soon found a café that was dog-friendly. We thought it was a nice touch to leave a packet of chews for our dogs. The cottage was fantastic and met all our needs. Our dogs settled in straight away and we wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again in the future.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Plenty to do within a short drive. Great for walks with the kids. Cosy with just enough mod cons. The decor is of a high standard. We were delighted with the little extras such as tea, coffee, sugar, paper towels, tin foil and cellophane all provided ooh and even a packet of biscuits. Hutton le hole isn't great for mobile phone connection though. Or for Tv signal. So we used an app on our mobile for using wifi for calls and texts. I advise future visitors to use YouTube to view favourite Tv programmes rather than the Tv service as this provides a more constant signal. We had a wonderful holiday and would definitely recommend.
