Set near the breathtakingly beautiful North Devon Coast, this friendly, family run complex is peacefully located within 10 acres of grounds with outstanding views over the glorious Devon countryside. Moorhead Country Holidays is the perfect holiday choice for family, friends and couples at any time of year. The complex comprises of 16 properties, 10 apartments for families accommodating between 3 and 6 people set together in the grounds, 6 apartments for couples (and older children) set in a barn conversion attached to the main complex, and a separate cottage also attached to the main complex. The complex has fantastic on-site facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool (open all year), sauna and hot tub area, a well-equipped gym, Wi-Fi (in the communal areas), games room and separate snooker room. Located on a 1½-acre, well-stocked coarse fishing lake, with carp weighing up to 20lb, in stunning surroundings, and a 9-hole pitch and putt course. In the evening there is a delightful fully licensed bar and restaurant to enjoy and give a relaxing end to the day (open 6.30pm-10.30pm, Easter-Oct, Feb half term, Xmas & New Year). Guests staying over the New Year week can enjoy a complimentary party with a buffet and music to welcome in the New Year. There is plenty to keep everyone entertained whatever the weather.
Only 4 miles from the coast, this stunning location is perfect to explore the dramatic North Cornwall and North Devon coastline. There is the Hartland Peninsula, the pretty town of Bideford with a good range of facilities, and a trip to Lundy Island can be organised from the quayside. Westward Ho! and the popular Cornish resort of Bude have fantastic beaches, renowned for excellent surfing, whilst Bude’s vibrant town centre has a vast array of good restaurants and bars. Both walkers and cyclists will enjoy the nearby Tarka Trail and Moorhead Country Holidays is the perfect touring base to explore the delights of both North Devon and North Cornwall. Coastal walks, and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Parks are a must. Honeysuckle Apartment is one of three, 3-bedroomed properties at Moorhead, situated in the grounds, but close to the facilities. Honeysuckle commands magnificent views over the North Devon countryside from both the living room and the double bedroom.

    We had one of our best family holidays staying at Moorhead country farm. Beautiful location, lovely cottage and great owners. Couldn’t ask for more.

    This is a nice resort with good facilities in a beautiful part of Devon. The resort has a large indoor pool and hot tub plus a games room, snooker room, gym (walked past it!) and massive grounds with pitch/putt and a fishing lake. It is a few miles away from the coast so lovely and peaceful with great views. Positives - decent sized accommodation (we stayed in a 3 bed cottage which had 2 bathrooms) that was clean and had plenty of storage space. There was also a memory foam mattress in the main room which was really comfortable. The grounds are spacious, plenty of room for various games as well as a wooded area near the lake. The pool was well kept. There was also a restaurant, menu looked good but we didn't use it, plus a bar and the prices weren't too bad. Negatives - cottage is in need of refurbishment as it is tired. Windows/doors need replacing as it was quite damp everywhere. Kitchen isn't very well equipped, no extractor, very old electric cooker (rings are a nightmare to cook on) and not much by way of pots/pans/equipment for a family of six. Recliner sofa as per the advert/website wasn't the case but the dining table and other furniture was OK. The fishing lake clearly needs some professional maintenance as it is very overgrown with tree branches in the water all around the edges. There weren't that many spots to sit and fish from, some decking/pontoons would make it a better experience. As for the fish, we know there were a few in there but we fished for 4 days (between 3 and 7 hours each day, and different times of the day) and only caught one tiny rudd/perch and didn't even get a bite the rest of the time. I suspect the lake needs dredging as there must be heaps of debris/decaying bait on the bottom for the fish to feed on. The owners were down there a few times and said they hadn't caught anything in the past 5 weeks! This aspect was really disappointing but it appears the lake has been neglected so if you are looking for some serious fishing this isn't the place to go right now. Quick wins for the new owners:- 1. Blackout blinds or proper curtains in the rooms. At the front the external lights were on all night so the room was flooded with light and in the morning the daylight flooded in the other rooms. 2. Sharpen the knives in the kitchen and provide some bigger cooking pots/pans for larger families 3. Provide dishwasher tabs to allow for one a day for the duration of the stay. We had three but had to then go out and buy a whole packet to cover the remaining days. 4. Put the fridge/freezer on ahead of guests arriving (possibly an oversight). 5. Don't charge for pool/snooker - we generally choose a property for the facilities and would rather have all the amenities included. The current owners had only been in place since March and they have plans to refurbish all the cottages which is good news and with some TLC this resort could be much nicer. As it stands, we still felt it was good value for money as it was priced quite competitively when we booked. I'd happily pay more if the facilities were upgraded. In terms of suggestions - some play equipment (swings/slides) outside and some lounger beds by the pool plus some BBQ's that could be used by guests would all be good. I question whether the restaurant is worthwhile, we didn't use it ourselves as we cooked indoors and ate out a few nights. For us it was more appealing to go out to a pub for food rather than onsite (very quiet, not much atmosphere) and the space could be better utilised if it isn't adding value/profit for the owners. We didn't use the bar either as we had our own drink in the room but some entertainment would have been good, a quiz night or bingo perhaps?
