Set near the breathtakingly beautiful North Devon Coast, this friendly, family run complex is peacefully located within 10 acres of grounds with outstanding views over the glorious Devon countryside. Moorhead Country Holidays is the perfect holiday choice for family, friends and couples at any time of year. The complex comprises of 16 properties, 10 apartments for families accommodating between 3 and 6 people set together in the grounds, 6 apartments for couples (and older children) set in a barn conversion attached to the main complex, and a separate cottage also attached to the main complex. The complex has fantastic on-site facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool (open all year), sauna and hot tub area, a well-equipped gym, Wi-Fi (in the communal areas), games room and separate snooker room. Located on a 1½-acre, well-stocked coarse fishing lake, with carp weighing up to 20lb, in stunning surroundings, and a 9-hole pitch and putt course. In the evening there is a delightful fully licensed bar and restaurant to enjoy and give a relaxing end to the day (open 6.30pm-10.30pm, Easter-Oct, Feb half term, Xmas & New Year). There is plenty to keep everyone entertained whatever the weather.
Only 4 miles from the coast, this stunning location is perfect to explore the dramatic North Cornwall and North Devon coastline. There is the Hartland Peninsula, the pretty town of Bideford with a good range of facilities, and a trip to Lundy Island can be organised from the quayside. Westward Ho! and the popular Cornish resort of Bude have fantastic beaches, renowned for excellent surfing, whilst Bude’s vibrant town centre has a vast array of good restaurants and bars. Both walkers and cyclists will enjoy the nearby Tarka Trail and Moorhead Country Holidays is the perfect touring base to explore the delights of both North Devon and North Cornwall. Coastal walks, and for family fun, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Parks are a must. Garden lovers will enjoy RHS Rosemoor, Docton Mill and Tapeley Park, and there are many pretty fishing villages nearby including Clovelly, Instow and Appledore. Chaffinch is a Barn Apartment
Chaffinch Apartment is one of five cosy and charming one-bedroom apartments situated in a turn of the century barn conversion. Each has a character of its own. These apartments are particularly designed with couples in mind. They are situated in a quiet part of the main complex and therefore close to all the facilities. They all have wonderful views over the farmer’s adjoining fields and the countryside beyond.
Chaffinch is a ground floor apartment: Living room with dining table and small kitchen area. 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Oil central heating included. Electric mini cooker with oven/grill and two hotplates. Access to shared freezer. No children under 10 years.

All properties: Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Microwave. Wi-Fi (in communal area). Coin-operated laundry room on site. Shared 10-acres of natural, landscaped grounds. Ample parking. Indoor heated swimming pool (shared, 10m x 5m, depth 1m to 2m), open 8am-8pm, all year. Hot tub (shared). Sauna (shared, at cost).     There was no wi-fi, as advertised, until the last couple of days. The new managers admit they intend to refurbish the development, but our view is that they should have done it before the season started. The manager responded immediately to suggestions re the hardness of the mattress, and some cleaning. However, the carpet and rug were bald in places. The rug is fit for the bin. The kitchen units needed a more thorough cleaning, but were shabby and in need of replacement. The pine toothbrush holder (holes in wood type) in the bathroom.... we'll leave to your imagination. We didn't use it. The pine towel rail was in a similar state. Hence, the overall initial impression was not good. However, we did stay the week. It had good views over the fields, and was a very quiet location. We did not use the pool (we were too busy exploring the coast), or the restaurant. There is a good range of dvd's to borrow for free, and a games room. We would not stay again, simply because we like to move to new areas to explore.

As we only took ownership of Moorhead 12 weeks ago, we wanted to honour the previous Owners bookings which meant we have had to put renovations on hold until the winter period. We do offer Wi-Fi in communal areas, the login for this is displayed at reception. We had no issues reported to us regarding the Wi-Fi that week. We are sorry you found your mattress hard but we did provide you with a topper as it’s very hard to accommodate everyone’s mattress preference. We feel our accommodation is priced accordingly and our guests receive clean and comfy accommodation with great onsite facilities.

    We expected a cottage. What we had was a small apartment . We had the door leading off from a long corridor. Every where seemed very run down and in need of money being spent, in our few rooms as well as the rest of the complex.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; It is disappointing that these guests were not happy with their accommodation, but it is very upsetting to receive such a poor review, when the customer had clearly not read the description of the property and not looked at the photos of the apartment. And it’s more of a shame that the guests didn't discuss this with us when they were here. When I saw the guest on the second night, I asked if everything was OK and they said yes it was fine. The description of Chaffinch says it is an apartment six times. In fact, it starts off by saying: "Overlooking the countryside and as part of a complex, this charming apartment designed with couples in mind". It then goes on to say: Moorhead has 10 family apartments and 6 apartments for couples. Chaffinch is a barn apartment (this is in bold type on the website). Chaffinch is one of five cosy and charming one-bedroom apartments. Chaffinch is a ground floor apartment. The word Cottage is used only once in the description and that is in reference to Lavender Cottage which is a cottage. I do not know how much clearer we can make it. I think the rest of the comment and scores (3 for cleanliness when our apartments are spotlessly clean) is coloured by the fact that the guests were unhappy that Chaffinch wasn't a cottage. To put it into perspective, the guests paid about £50 per night (for both of them) for the accommodation which includes free use of the well heated swimming pool and free use of lots of other on-site facilities. We are extremely good value for money and they would have not been able to get even a basic hotel with no facilities for that price.
