Description

Ideal for a family, this traditional terraced holiday makes a good base from which to explore the Cumbrian coast and the Lake District.

Moonfleet is a traditional terraced holiday cottage situated in the centre of Haverigg, a small fishing village close to the Lakeland Fells. The village is built around a small attractive harbour and has a post office, chip shop, two pubs and a beach caféA supermarket and other shops, restaurants, cafes, take-aways, chemist and GP surgery are located in Millom which is only two miles away. Amenities for those wanting an active holiday are a short drive from the village and include golf, horse riding and water sports, as well as Wakestation (artificial wake boarding) on the lagoon. Haverigg is not far from Coniston, Ambleside and Windermere where you will find yourself in the heart of Beatrix Potter’s Lake District. Heading north will bring you to Muncaster Castle at Ravenglass, where you can visit the famous Bird of Prey Centre or take the L’al Ratty steam train up to picturesque Eskdale. Moonfleet has been redecorated with a coastal theme throughout and will suit those wanting a quiet away from it all break. The cottage is a few minutes’ walk from 12 miles of unspoilt sandy beach and sand dunes, which in summer are covered in wild flowers including harebells and orchids. When we arrived at the cottage we expected it to be warm, but in fact it was really cold had to ring the owners to see why it was so cold,as they had asked what time we would be there so they could get it warm for our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked, but it was so small and no where really to prepare food, and also to store. The bathroom was very small and had a washing machine in there, which restricted sitting on the loo!! as you had to sit sideways!!!Suggest dishwasher is removed from kitchen and washing machine put in its place.also suggest that a curtain could be hung to keep drafts out of living room, plus no bedside light in one bedroom, these are all points that were made in visitor book 18 months ago and nothing has been done.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback on your stay last month...moreover we are sorry to hear that our cottage did not fulfill your expectations on this occasion. The central heating is set on a timer and thermostat for guests arriving after 4pm as is the norm because most guests find it much too warm when it is left on constantly. Unfortunately with you choosing to arrive early afternoon on the second day of your holiday and we only had an estimated time for your arrival I can only apologise that the central heating was not on. However there is also a living flame gas fire in the sitting room for instant heat had you chosen to use it. And indeed as soon as you phoned to advise of your arrival I did meet you within a few minutes to assist you with this matter. The kitchen is compact but this is very clearly shown in the photos on the website. Although there is only one double cupboard for food storage there is also a large walk in cupboard with shelving in the adjacent dining area which many guests choose to use for non perishable items such as tins and cereals etc. Indeed there is also a huge farmhouse style table right next to the kitchen which can also double up as a food prep area. The bathroom which has very recently been refurbished is also compact and after some mixed reviews, we made the decision to keep the washing machine insitu as many guests who stay for longer periods with children do find it useful to have both a washing machine and dish washer. We are surprised to find you needed to sit sideways to fit on the toilet and have certainly never received that comment before. This is something we plan to discuss with the holiday company to find the best way forward for future guests. The cottage has had new doors and windows in the last 10 years and again you are the first guests to complain of it being draughty. Our phone numbers are clearly left at the property together with a card asking that guests contact us as soon as possible if there is anything else you need to make your stay more comfortable. Had you done this we would have provided an extension lead and additional bedside lighting. In the past we have chosen not to leave this out all the time as it may pose a trip hazard and the safety and welfare of our guests is a priority. We note from your low scoring that you were also disappointed with our local amenities. Although Haverigg only has two pubs, a post office and a chip shop there are a number of other amenities only 5 minutes drive away in Millom. These include two supermarkets and a well stocked garage, a post office and bank, chemists, a GP surgery and a vet, several pubs, restaurants and takeaways. Again had you contacted us we would gladly have advised you of this... although the information book in the cottage does also contain a wealth of information about all of these plus other things further afield. We are also very sorry that you did not feel able to contact us about both the kitchen blinds getting broken during your stay or the dining room door becoming detached from its casing as we would have done our best to get them fixed for you. We do hope that should you choose to return to Haverigg for your next holiday you are able to find a much larger property that better suits your needs.

Beautiful cottage, close to the beach, in a lovely friendly little village. The house was so homely, and the welcome gifts were gratefully received. Sadly there isn’t a local shop, but that is the only downside. We had a very relaxing stay.

The cottage was in pristine condition. It was located near an excellent chip shop which offered a great value for money tea. Had a fun day out at the beach, which was only a short walk away from the cottage.Would visit again

The house was lovely, very clean and tidy. The only downside for me was the kitchen was very small, and I did struggle to manage meals in their, and the washing machine was in the bathroom, so felt very closed in. Its a lovely place to go, but not a lot around for family I felt it suits couple better. but it was great to get away and recharge Thanks

Excellent walks for the dogs. Good base for visiting most of the lakes as were on average just 30 minutes drive away. Limited restaurants in the area and had limited times were open.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback on your stay. We are glad you and your dogs enjoyed the area and the wonderful walks from the cottage. It is such a pity you were disappointed with the number of restaurants close to the cottage. Had you contacted us we would have been able to advise you of some just a very short drive away and several pubs selling excellent food too.
