With an open plan layout of living/dining/kitchen, the lodge has access to a raised enclosed deck, ideal for eating al fresco or just enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine. situated only a short stroll from the beach with tropical palms fronting the promenade and yachts moored out in the sheltered bay. From here you can explore the charm of a seaside town with cafés, shops, bars and bistro.
A haven for wildlife, Cumbrae attracts migrant birds from around the world and the flora of the island is equally varied with a visit to the island’s Marine Research Station with museum and aquarium a must. Take the short ferry crossing to the town of Largs, with its bustling town centre and plentiful local attractions including Kelburn Castle and Estate, which offers a magical mix of surprises like the secret forest, a giant’s castle or a wild west saloon, with crazy street art covering the funky exterior of the castle. Day trips can also be taken to the neighbouring islands of Bute & Arran and the trip is well worth the effort. Further inland you can explore gardens and castles. Horse riding, racing and a choice of golf courses are on offer, with the world-famous Turnberry and Royal within easy reach. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular as is Dumfries House, an 18th-century stately home set on 2000 acres, with the architecture of Robert Adam and the furniture of Thomas Chippendale. Ayrshire is also known as ’Burns’ Country’, and is steeped in tradition and history. Visit Burns Cottage, The Burns Memorial Museum and the Brig o’ Doon, the bridge from the famous poem Tam o’ Shanter. The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park is within easy reach.
