This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Great for a family holiday, attractions within easy reach include Peppa Pig World, Monkey World, Marwell Zoo and Adventure Wonderland.

Carefully converted to allow for maximum space and light, these three single-storey barn conversions stand within the owner’s working stud farm, and offer the ideal base for couples, walking groups and families wishing to enjoy a farm lifestyle, yet are within easy driving distance to many attractions, towns and villages. All of the barn conversions have high vaulted ceilings and plentiful beams, and have spacious open-plan living areas. Little Barn (ref UKC2539) is detached, and Chiddock Cottage (ref UKC2540) and Chidley Cottage (ref UKC2541) adjoin one another in a L shape. All of the properties have rustic concrete floors with rugs, and are furnished using natural woods of differing origins. Outside, there is a decked sitting-out area for each property, a shared enclosed courtyard area with raised planting beds where vegetables, herbs and fruit grow, a circular central feature with fire pit, an outdoor pizza oven and BBQ. There is also a small farm shop, a rustic play area for children and freshly laid eggs daily from the on-site chickens! For guests who may wish to bring a horse, the owners offer livery available by prior arrangement.

Discover scenic walks from the door, Midgham Farm Copse lies at the end of a track within 40 acres of woodland along the Avon Valley path, which leads all the way from Christchurch to Salisbury. For those that like the outdoor lifestyle this is a great place, as there is on-site archery, axe throwing and fishing in the River Avon (licence required). Nearby there is horse riding, the New Forest Water Park for cable wakeboarding, an aqua park, kayaking and other water sports. For those bringing dogs, there are plenty of excellent walks all around, many of which offer great bird and wildlife spotting.

Places to visit include Alderholt Mill, which has a working watermill open to visitors and also offers cream teas at the weekend during the summer, and Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, which has orienteering, cycle hire, golf, forest Segway, walking groups, canoeing, petanque and craftmaking. Avon Heath Country Park is also within easy driving distance and is ideal for keen ramblers. The New Forest National Park provides miles of scenic walks and a network of bridle paths and footpaths, and you can often find ponies, donkeys and cattle roaming freely. The charming town of Fordingbridge, which has a host of shops, cafés and eateries, and the gentle flowing River Avon are also both nearby. Ringwood also has a good selection of shops and restaurants, and is about a 15-minute drive away. These barn conversions are convenient for road links to the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury, Christchurch Harbour and the coast, including Sandbanks, Poole and Bournemouth. Other places of interest include Beaulieu Motor Museum, Marwell Zoo, Paultons Park with Peppa Pig World, Adventure Wonderland, Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, New Forest Wildlife Park and maritime Southampton. Our family had a wonderful 4 night stay at Chidley Cottage. The owners are very welcoming but unobtrusive, Sammy was around if we had any questions. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and so much more spacious than we were expecting. Between us we’ve stayed in many self catering cottages and this is one of the best. Our children absolutely loved being able to visit and feed the pigs and goats! We’d love to come back in the summer to take advantage of the garden, BBQ and pizza oven, it was just a bit too chilly this time of year! A lovely holiday, thank you!

This was a wonderful cottage, beautifully designed and decorated and well-equipped. Sammy, our host, was exceptionally friendly, helpful and generous with her time (and vegetables!) I was with my 95 year old mother, so had limited opportunity to explore the area. However, I will definitely return to explore the New Forest on foot. I wish we could have stayed longer and I would recommend this property to everyone!

A beautiful holiday cottage in a very peaceful setting. The owners are extremely helpful and add a few little goodies which is a lovely touch. There is also an 'honesty shop' in the grounds which is such a good idea. The accommodation is very well equipped. The towels, linen etc are of good quality and everything is very clean. There is a lovely courtyard area to sit in with raised beds of herbs and vegetables which you can use if you need them. There are footpaths from the doorstep which is great for walkers like us but the New Forest is so close by car with all its beauty making it easily accessible.
