My husband, dog and I had a fabulous stay. The views are stunning and the facilities were all good. Lots of space and nice touches like tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. The hot tub was the highlight for us, as well as the beach being 200yards away. Will definitely revisit and highly recommend!

Our second stay at Merlin House, but our first in Applegarth. Lisa, the new owner of six weeks’ duration and her family are working hard to realise the vision they have for the property. Applegarth is clean and bright and well appointed. Lisa and Francis are welcoming, friendly and helpful. This is a wonderful location, close to the beach and even closer to the West Somerset Railway, in an area that, being slightly off the beaten track, is not overrun with tourists. It is generally pretty quiet here, the occasional sound of whistles, clanking of wheels and steam being entirely acceptable. The sunsets are glorious made even better when viewed from the hot tub, and the views to Dunster and Minehead are a perfect backdrop. Minehead has an air of being tidy and well looked after and for the most part is relatively unspoilt. For us, stand-out eateries for quality and service were the Seaview Takeaway next to Minehead station for fish and chips, and the Driftwood Cafe over the level crossing and just around the corner for the Blue Anchor breakfast and cups of hot chocolate. Sadly, two of our pub/restaurant choices were fully booked so we’ll have to sample them on another occasion. A long weekend, but not long enough really. Monty, our Labrador, made a friend with Josh the collie staying next door. We will definitely stay again.
