Description

A perfectly sized cottage for two all, on the ground floor and within easy reach of the A30 for exploring the area around Bodmin Moor and further afield.

Mennabroom is a little piece of heaven hidden on Bodmin Moor. This small country estate with the owner’s historic 14th-century Grade II listed farmhouse, and three lovely holiday cottages, are part of a working farm situated on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor in south east Cornwall. The Tallet, The Shippon and The Byre have been sympathetically converted from a range of traditional stone outbuildings dating back to the 17th-century, and offer contemporary comforts within rustic traditional surroundings. Peacefully positioned on a private drive behind the main farmhouse, each cottage is accessed by steps to the front doors, while The Byre can be easily accessed via the back door with one step for those with mobility concerns. All the cottages have their own sitting-out area with garden furniture. The cottages are both child and dog friendly, and guests are free to wander the 40 acres which includes beautiful river and ancient woodland walks. There is a large shared grass area for games and relaxation as well as a barbecue area.
The properties are set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and whatever time of the year you visit you will not be disappointed. The farm is surrounded by Bodmin Moor, with its unspoilt, windswept, ancient landscape. Steeped in history, the landscape is made up of craggy tors, small hamlets, ancient woodland and fast flowing streams. At Mennabroom there are 32 acres of pasture, currently with flocks of sheep, Oxford Sandy and black pigs and a small herd of Dexter cattle, the remaining land comprises of woodland, ponds, stream and river. An exquisite area of ancient woodland runs along the valley bottom and is intersected by the River Dewey. This natural conservation area provides delightful, peaceful walks and is a home to a wealth of wildlife.
There is plenty to see and do, with the Eden Project and Lanhydrock House both being close by, and Padstow to the north and Fowey to the south, both with sandy beaches, are only a short distance away. There is excellent walking from Mennabroom, with cycling in nearby Cardinham Woods and on the Camel Trail from Bodmin. The owner’s produce rare breed pork and guests can pre-order cooked breakfasts and evening meals. There are two deep unfenced ponds close to the drive on the opposite side from the waterfall, that are fed by the stream crossing the drive, further on is the broadleaved ancient woodland through which the River Dewey flows. A feature throughout this woodland is the abundance of lichens and bryophytes, and in the spring it is full of bluebells and orchids. There is trout fishing available on a 900-acre lake, less than a mile away. Beach 20 miles. Shop and pub 3 miles, restaurant 2 miles.
The Tallet (ref UKC1658), The Shippon (ref UKC1659) and The Byre (ref UKC1660) can be booked together to accommodate up to 12 guests.

pefect and tranquil spot for those who want to explore Cornwall and after a busy day with lots of impressions want to retire for evening and night at this peaceful, well equipped place. there are no pubs, restaurants or whatever within a 2 mile radius, we loved it. the kitchen had all tools to make dinner or, if one does not feel like cooking oneself, the landlady offers delicious home cooked meals, to be ordered two days in advance. sausages and eggs from the farm. well appointed, comfortable bed. if anything should be missing, you only have to ask the host and they will immediately help

We loved our stay at the byre is lovely and cozy and the kitchen is very well equipped and although the farm and cottages feel in the middle of nowhere it is only 10 minutes off the A30 so it makes getting about very easy
