A short walk from Mawgan Porth’s beautiful beach, this is a great property for a seaside holiday.

Within walking distance of Mawgan Porth’s beach, which is dog friendly year round and has RNLI lifeguards April to Sept, Menehay (Cornish for sanctuary) is an excellent base for families and friends to enjoy this beautiful area of North Cornwall at any time of the year. This converted, adjoining barn has upside-down, open-plan living, taking advantage of distant sea views. Families and surfers will love just being able to cross the road and stroll down the sandy path to the beach. The village of Mawgan Porth has all you need, including a local deli, restaurant, family pub, surf hire and a shop, all based around the beach. There is access to the coastal path, dramatic cliffs and Bedruthan Steps.

Padstow and Watergate Bay boast superb dining from Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver (booking essential), whilst Newquay, 5 miles, has plenty of amenities, including a cinema, zoo, SeaLife Centre and eleven beaches. The renowned Camel Trail from Padstow to Bodmin can be easily reached, and the surf along the coast is truly amazing. After a day out in the salt water and sun, you can relax in Menehay’s small courtyard garden and enjoy a barbecue as the sun dips into the ocean. If you feel the need to explore, this is the perfect location from which to visit the Eden Project, Fowey, St Ives, Truro and many spectacular gardens, including the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan. Outdoor activities within easy reach include fishing, horse riding and golf. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Menehay is a lovely place to stay! Clean and well looked after property. The location is lovely but the beach and shops are at the bottom of a very steep hill which is fine going down but difficult with a 6 year old walking back up. The cottage has everything you need and more, the location is close to lots of places to visit and we visited a different beach every day! Hopefully be back again in the future!

Upstairs in the house is lovely, with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable seating. But I feel that certain things let it down........ Seals on velux windows perished so difficult to open, very noisy when people are still upstairs and you are trying to sleep, no washing line outside for towels and wetsuits..... Making washing machine fairly useless!! , drawers in main bedroom difficult to open and close, and dusty inside, ensuite sink plug visibly blocked with hair,. Garden outside is untidy and full of weeds. We enjoyed our week away but sadly wouldn't return to this house.

Menehaay was a beautiful well equip cottage. The views we're lovely. However when we arrived we had to clean all the Lego out as it was growing things on there and the bins weren't emptied inside. One downside if your bringing children is that sound carries everywhere. Our 5 year old struggled to go to sleep at bedtime because he could hear every doorstep upstairs.
