Meldon Park was built by the renowned architect John Dobson in 1832 for Isaac Cookson and remains the home of the Cookson family. Dobson is known to have walked the grounds for a month before choosing the imposing site of the house, on a ledge above the valley of the River Wansbeck, in the northern part of an old deer park. The accommodation available is a substantial self-contained wing with independent access.
