Guests of Meadow Cottage will not be stuck for places to visit, with beaches, scenic walks, family attractions and market towns to discover.

This lovely, detached family home enjoys stunning views over private farmland, fields and valleys, and is peacefully located in a charming hamlet with a duckpond and historic church. The well-equipped, farmhouse-style kitchen opens out to the dining area, and the living room has French doors leading to the extensive lawned gardens. There is plenty of parking available, and many thoughtful personal touches throughout to ensure guests are made to feel welcome.

Meadow Cottage makes the ideal base to explore the area, where there are many superb, scenic local walks through amazing valleys, farmland and woodland, with Ashmore Wood also close by. It lies on a popular cycle route, the Wessex Ridgeway, where various birds and other wildlife can be seen. Meadow Cottage is located in a beautiful part of Dorset, yet very close to the Wiltshire and Hampshire borders making it easily accessible for a whole range of sightseeing attractions and walks.

Salisbury has Britain’s tallest spire, Europe’s oldest clock and one of the original (and best preserved) copies of the Magna Carta. Salisbury Cathedral, with its ornate beauty, draws people in from all around the world. Meadow Cottage is also within driving distance of the renowned Dorset coast, home to the World Heritage Site ’Jurassic Coast’. Other attractions close by include Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Castle and Cove, Durdle Dor and National Trust beaches such as Studland and Knoll beach. Shaftesbury is a small market town with a recorded history that dates back to the Anglo Saxon times. It is famous for its Gold Hill, made famous by the ‘Hovis’ advert, and offering superb views over the Blackmore Vale. Gillingham has a rich history dating back over 1000 years, and has enjoyed mentions in a great deal of literature, including the work of Thomas Hardy. The historic market town of Sherborne features two castles, and you can experience what it was like in King Alfred’s day by meandering around the abbey ruins, perfect for history buffs.

Within easy driving distance there are some superb family attractions to enjoy, such as Old Sarum, an early settlement and an English Heritage Site, and Old Wardour Castle, which is a 14th-century structure set in gardens besides a lake. Within easy driving distance are Bath, Stonehenge, Monkey World, the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum, Haynes Motor Museum, Longleat House and Safari Park, and more. Stourhead House and Gardens is well worth seeing, as is Sturminster Newton, Poole, Bournemouth and Blandford Forum. There are scenic country walks in the area, fishing in the River Stour about 5 miles away, and golf at Rushmore, also about 5 miles distant. There are many lovely country pubs to discover in the area in which to relax, and wine and dine in! Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Poole Harbour, Dorchester, Weymouth and West Bay, known from the TV show Broadchurch, are all well worth a visit. Beach 22 miles. Shop 3¼ miles, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

We arrived feeling tired and tense. Within a day we had relaxed and enjoyed the garden. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, eating at the big table and looking at the fantastic views through the open windows.

Beautiful, clean cottage with lovely views. Very spacious for group of 10 and our dog. The cottage had pretty much everything we needed and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. Only downside is lack of shops locally but can be accessed within 10-15mins drive.

We stayed 3 days in Meadow cottage Ashmore. It was well beyond our expectations. In the quiet village of ashmore, it was comfortable to our two families, well equipped, with two bathrooms and a large garden were the kids could play. Even the lovely son of the owner came to enforce our soccer team. The beds are very comfortable, there is plenty of hot water for the showers, but most of all Jemma ( the owner) was very responsive to our questions and provided more then basic amenities. towels, toilet paper, cooking spices etc were available more. Tv are smart and wifi good (10 Mbit). We fell in love with ashmore and the cottage, the easy acces to the numerous tracks thru dorset and surroundings and the airfield were it is easy to charter one off their classic planes. We could give Jemma any suggestions for improvement. Hope visiting again
